Tiefling (Changeling Variant)

To be greeted with stares and whispers, to suffer violence and insult on the street, to see mistrust and fear in every eye. Or to be revered as exotic beauties and beings descended from great power. The reception tieflings may receive throughout the world can vary quite widely. Tieflings are cross breeds of one species and entities from infernal and abyssal origins.   Tieflings with a parent of changeling heritage can shift their forms to some degree. Many use this gift as a form of artistic and emotional expression. It's also an invaluable tool for grifters, spies, and others who wish to deceive. This leads some people to treat them with suspicion.
ability score increase: Your Charisma score increases by 2, and your Intelligence score increases by 1.
age: Tieflings mature at varying rates depending on their heritage.
alignment: Tieflings might not have an innate tendency toward evil, but many of them end up there. Evil or not, an independent nature inclines many tieflings toward a chaotic alignment. The changeling variant tend toward pragmatic neutrality, and few embrace evil.
Size: Medium
speed: 30 ft
Languages: Common, Infernal or Abyssal, and one language of your choice.
race features:

Changeling Instincts

You gain proficiency with two of the following skills of your choice: Deception, Insight, Intimidation, and Persuasion.

Darkvision

Thanks to your heritage, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Shapechanger

As an action, you can change your appearance. You determine the specifics of the changes, including your coloration and hair texture. You can attempt to change parts about your physical structure once per day, but doing so does consume a significant amount of energy. You can change the size of your tail and horns and the look of your eyes (solid color, pupil look, etc.), but will not be able to change these features again until you complete a long rest. You cannot make your horns and tail excessively large however. You will have to pass certain checks to change other parts of your appearance.
You can change the shape of your horns, length of your hair up to a foot, and shape of your nails (Ex. Claws) if you roll above a 10 on a d20.
You can change the type of horns you have, size of your horns and/or tail to be far larger or make them disappear entirely, and length of your hair up to three feet if you above a 15 on a d20.
If you manage a nat 20 on a d20 roll you can exhibit the same sort of shapeshifting abilities as a standard changeling. You can change your appearance and your voice. You determine the specifics of the changes, including your coloration, hair length, and sex. You can also adjust your height and weight, but not so much that your size changes. You can make yourself appear as a member of another race, though none of your game statistics change. You can't duplicate the appearance of a creature you've never seen, and you must adopt a form that has the same basic arrangement of limbs that you have.
Your clothing and equipment aren't changed by this trait. You stay in the new form until you use an action to revert to your true form or until you die.

Legacy of the Ancient

You know the Claws of Darkness cantrip. Once you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Cloying Darkness spell once per day as a 2nd-level spell. Once you reach 5th level, you can cast the Darkbolt spell once per day. Once you reach 7th level, you can cast Creeping Dark once per day. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
