The Weeping Blade

Weapon

Legendary Requires Attunement

This legendary weapon is in the form of a longsword when it is not attuned. Once attuned, it takes on the form and appropriate damage dice of the wielder's preferred weapon.   Historical accounts differ on the true name of this legendary weapon of the Spirit of Decay; it is known both as The Weeping Blade and The Reaping Blade in numerous accounts of its history. In some stories, it is said to be a dagger, in others a massive claymore or a nimble rapier. The Weeping, while being the personal weapon of the Spirit of Decay, has been given to champions or those who have earned the Spirit's favor at times throughout its history.   All accounts agree on the basic description of this legendary weapon: It is made of an unknown metal which is the deep black of a new moon night. From a distance, the metal seems to contain a multitude of stars; tiny points of glimmering light. Closer inspection shows a more spectral nature to the small points of light, which are in constant motion.   Most accounts include some description of peridot gems encrusting the weapon's guard, or a single large peridot stone set in the pommel, or even a line of such stones up the center of the ricasso, the unsharpened base of the blade on larger swords.   The most unique account of The Weeping's features is that the edge of the blade, when exposed, seems to be constantly decaying and crumbling in a stream of black dust. This dust is often described as falling from the blade's edge while in a fog of spectral green light. The particles from this stream decay completely to nothing as they fall from the weapon, none lasting any further than two inches from the weapon, and have no physical component to them. They cannot be held, captured, or contained and will pass through any container used to try and enclose them. This effect will happen whenever its bearer's hand is upon its hilt.   Like all weapons of the Spirits of Imarel, it can be recalled to the Spirit's hand at their will. Any who choose to wield a Spirit's weapon should take care not to use it in ways that go against the favor of the weapon's true owner, or they can find themselves with an empty hand in the midst of battle.   The weapons of the Spirits, when wielded by others, are known to change their form to meet the needs and personal style of the bearer.
