When you cast eldritch blast, you can affect every creature in a cone instead of making individual attacks. Each creature in a 15-foot cone must make a Dexterity saving throw. A target takes 1d10 force damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. For other eldritch invocations that take effect when eldritch blast hits a target, eldritch blast is considered to hit any target that fails its saving throw.
The size of the cone increases when you reach higher levels: 30-foot cone at 5th level, 45-foot cone at 11th level, and 60-foot cone at 17th level.
