Duality

Weapon

Legendary Requires Attunement by a Siverain Requires Attunement

This short-handled weavestaff with a matte slate gray finish ignites with two golden yellow arcane blades that bring its full length to slightly longer than a normal weavestaff.

Sentience. Duality is a sentient chaotic good weapon with an Intelligence of 22, Wisdom of 18, and Charisma of 15. It has hearing and darkvision out to a range of 120 feet.
The weapon communicates telepathically with its wielder and can speak, read, and understand Common, Goblin, and Undercommon.

Personality. The flow ghost of an ancient Jensa’ari Siverain inhabits Duality. The weapon speaks to its wielder in that long-deceased Siverain’s voice. It pushes its wielder to face their darkest fears and inner demons.

Dormant

The weavestaff grants the following benefits in its dormant state:

  • You can speak, read, and write goblin and undercommon.

  • You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon.

  • Light and Shadow. The weavestaff sheds bright light in a 10-foot radius and dim light for another 10 feet. Alternatively, the weavestaff can shed dim light in a 10-foot radius and create darkness within 10 feet beyond that radius. You can alternate between these states of light and darkness produced by the weavestaff as a bonus action while holding it. The light or darkness produced by the weavestaff replaces natural light or darkness and magical light or darkness created by a spell of 2nd level or lower within its area.

Awakened

In its awakened state, the weavestaff gains the following properties:

  • The weapon’s bonus to attack and damage rolls increases to +2.

  • The light and darkness produced by the weavestaff now replaces light or darkness created by a spell of 3rd level or lower. The radius of all light and darkness produced by the weavestaff increases to 15 feet.

  • Flash. As an action, you can cause all creatures in the area of bright light produced by the weavestaff to make a Constitution saving throw (DC 15). On a failed save, a creature takes 2d8 radiant damage and is blinded for 1 minute. The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success. Once you have used this property, you cannot use it again until the next dawn.

  • Fade. As an action, you can cause up to four creatures of your choice in an area of dim light produced by the weavestaff to become invisible until the end of their next turn. If an affected creature takes an action or reaction, it ceases to be invisible. Once you have used this property, you cannot use it again until the next dawn.

Exalted

When the weavestaff reaches an exalted state, it gains the following properties:

  • The weapon’s bonus to attack and damage rolls increases to +3

  • The light and darkness produced by the weavestaff replaces light or darkness created by a spell of 5th level or lower.

  • The damage of the weavestaff’s Flash property increases to 4d8 radiant damage, and its saving throw DC increases to 17.
