High elves are graceful warriors and wizards who originate from the realm of Faerie, the Feywild, gifted with keen minds and mastery over at least the basics of magic. They are magic in nature and share an interest in the arcane arts, learning from an early age to defend themselves with both spell and sword. High elves are, more so than any of their elven kin barring possibly the eladrin, haughty and reclusive, believing themselves superior to non-elves and at times even other elves. A certain irony is found in this when one considers the fact that the high elves control no kingdoms of their own and only rule over a single city of the Known World, Elandyr, located within the Riverwoods, with the rest of their race being bound to inhabit the settlements of other races after the War of Five Branches. Due to their longevity and strong ties to the otherworldly magic of the Feywild, high elves have a detached view of the world outside their sphere. High elves as a whole have difficulty believing that events which occur over mere "years" affect them in major way, with a few exceptions being found in the form of the War of Five Branches and the Scourge of Melekon. High elves instead look at things from a much longer perspective, unconcerned with anything that has consequences that stretch over less than decades. However, while most high elves are content to seclude themselves, some do take up the causes of more mortal races, stalking the lands as warriors and champions and battling any evil that could, if only temporarily, affect the fortunes of their people.
