Yonderverse

Scope

The motivation behind building Yonderverse

The Yonderverse has been in the works since I can remember. Through compiling various sketches of dragons, other animals, peoples and places, I have begun piecing together all of it to form different planets. World Anvil has allowed me to progress even further and turn it into a fully functioning, (somewhat) fleshed out universe.

The goal of the project

I want a sense of satisfaction when I look at the Yonderverse. It will never be complete, and I know that, but every time I look at my world I want to feel a sense of pride, that I have achieved something of this magnitude. Because half a million words is certainly an accomplishment.

This world is purely just a hobby of mine, and I get nothing out of it except a sense of accomplishment.

Yonderverse's Unique Selling point

The unique selling point of the Yonderverse is many things, but mostly it would be the number of species I have designed. I am somewhat known in the World Anvil Discord Server for the number of species I have created, which sits comfortably at about 670 as of the 22/5/2023.

The other unique selling point of the Yonderverse would be its size. It is a phenomenally large universe, and I am constantly stretching its physical limits, and as I keep writing there are more and more articles for readers to dive into and get lost in.

Theme

Genre

The Yonderverse is a science fantasy world. I have been writing about the science much more than the fantasy, and in the future I would like more of a balance between the two.

Science and magic can coexist in harmony, or it can be at conflict. It just depends how people wield it in the Yonderverse. Science and magic are both vital to daily life, and when used in the right way, can have tremendously positive impacts on society and the world.

Reader Experience

I want my readers to feel excited. To feel interested, and to want to keep clicking links to new articles to find out more. As I continue to flesh out my world, there will be more and more links for people to click on, and I am currently working on rewriting every single article in my world so people feel more excited when they read some of my older writings.

While I am not obsessive over other people's opinions on my writing and my world, it is still important to me that people enjoy what I write. Otherwise I would not be making it public. I really want my readers to just enjoy what they read.

Reader Tone

The Yonderverse is a blend of dark and bright tones. I enjoy writing happier, more bubbly articles and many of my planets are the most wholesome planets in existence, but I do enjoy occasionally delving into some darker themes. There are much more brighter parts of my world than darker, as I am less comfortable writing about darker, edgier stuff, but it's something i'm interested in improving at.

Recurring Themes

Life flourishes in the Yonderverse. Even in the most lifeless, barren landscapes, there will without a doubt be a diverse ecosystem inhabiting it. In fact, I made myself a rule: Every single geographic location in the Yonderverse *must* have lifeforms living in it. Zero exceptions. It certainly makes for some wacky wildlife.

Character Agency

No person in the Yonderverse would have the power to change the whole world, especially not with a long-lasting impact. And if an article says someone can, I lied. For my world to feel more comfortable for me, I don't want the entire fate of the Yonderverse to rest on a single person, but rather entire communities and civilisations.

Focus

Surprise surprise, life and ecosystems are my first focus point. Anyone surprised? I want each and every place in the Yonderverse that I've written about to have at least a handful of species, even if they are short paragraphs in a single article, just to make the world feel more alive.

Cultures and civilisations are my second focus point. While I am not as comfortable writing about cultures, since they are so diverse and complex, it is something I desperately want to expand in the Yonderverse. From native peoples of planets, to space colonies containing thousands of different species, there's so many civilisations and cultures needing to be written about.

Science and magic is my third focus point, since they go hand in hand. As a science fantasy world, of course these are my focuses! They influence cultures, peoples, species and places so much, and there's always more science and magic to write about.

Both I am less comfortable writing about than cultures, since I too barely have a grasp on science and magic isn't real so I'd have to come up with all of it myself, but I need to.

Drama

The Oanie.

Nobody likes them. The oanie are horrible people from the planet Karkhala, who really have made a name for themselves in countless galaxies. When they're not claiming planets as their own and taking all of their resources, they are sneaking onto inhabited planets and setting up tourist sites and factories, destroying native ecosystems and ruining countless planets.

Why does nobody love slimes?

Slimes have been prejudiced against ever since they started venturing into space. Due to their unusual anatomies, they have been shunned in so many space societies, barred from social gatherings and denied services and jobs. Activists are fighting for them to earn proper rights in space, but will they succeed?

Should Harvesting Planets be protected?

Currently, an inhabited planet can take legal ownership over a harvesting planet. A harvesting planet is a planet where there have been no native sophonts living there for at least a single year. So many harvesting planets are currently owned, and their resources are being stripped, or they are turned into giant resorts.

This is damaging so many ecosystems, and is it worth it? People are fighting for this practice to be abolished, because it brings little good and way too much drama.
