Shattered Skies

The Shattered Skies is a large floating island cluster located between Tropacia and Southland.

Geography & Climate

As expected, the Shattered Skies consist of floating islands, ranging from just above sea level to over 20 thousand metres up. These islands range in sizes, from just a few centimetres of rock broken off from larger islands, to islands miles wide. The islands are generally at an air temperature of around 20℃, reaching a maximum of 30℃ in summers, and 5℃ in winters. The islands often see rainfall, gathering in rivers and lakes. On rare occasions, when more water gathers on the islands and cannot escape, it will bring down the islands and end up floating on the ocean surface. On some islands, reverse waterfalls flow salt water up to the islands, and can form brackish water in some areas.

Fauna & Flora

Fauna

There is a small array of fauna in the Shattered Skies, all of which possess wings. Flight helps the animals traverse the islands, fluttering from rock to rock. Some of these creatures include cloud rays and cloud bunnies, both of which are kept as pets by dolarites.

Flora

There is a lot of flora species in the Shattered Skies, thanks to constant access to sunlight and plentiful water, both salt and fresh. Cloud daisies are some of the most common plant species, their translucent petals allow light to pass through them, and the flowers grow in large natural fields across the islands.

Pirates

These sky-farers are a common sight in the Shattered Skies. Pirates build their homes on these islands, while soar about the skies in their customised airships. They are occasionally scared off by dolarites when they approach their territory, but pirates generally stay around the north and west of the Shattered Skies. Pirates constantly engage in airship battles between opposing groups, which sometimes causes islands to sink, much to the dismay of the dolarites. Luckily, pirate territory covers only a small part of the Shattered Skies.

Dolarite

The only people native to the Shattered Skies, the dolarites are a group of very egotistical winged creatures that live on a group of islands in the Shattered Skies. They forbid travellers and tourists from entering their village, yet warmly and humbly invite leaders and rulers, offering their most magical foods and largest homes to them.
