Minokawa

Abberant Eagle and Eater of Light

The Minokawa hides in its Aerie on the Far Realm. It sees into the world of Erathia through the Eye of the Eagle, a crack in reality that it can come through when there's an eclipse. It burns with rage at the lights it sees: the stars, the moons, and especially the bright light of the maddening sun.

The Many Forms of the Minokawa

The great angry aberrant bird never has the same appearance twice. In ages past it manifested as an enormous eagle, its wingspan stretching across city blocks. Its feathers were black and brown, and it posessed the visage of a predatory bird. Its grasping claws could hold an ancient dragon whilt its beak snapped the wyrm in twain.

The next time it came as a storm of swirling shadows vaguely eagle shaped, but oddly cubic. That form emitted a dark aura that sucked the life out of everything around it.

Another time it roared over the skies of the Kirinal Pit as a true phoenix of fire and lightning. It left chaos and death in its wake.

Whatever its appearance, its eyes are the same. Crazed pupils of blood red and yellow surrounded by black circles. To look into the Eye of the Eagle for too long is to tempt madness.

Guardians of the Aerie

In times long past, a faction of brave eagle-man warriors took it up on themselves to protect the Minokawa's Aerie. These avian guardians were led by, shamans and druids who studied the Minokawa and were a calming influence on the great bird.

Based in a Roost below the Aerie, they had protective wards that kept them from going mad in the Far realm. However the Guardians went silent without warning. Observers note that the Roost is still there and human-sized forms can be seen flying around it and the Aerie. But no communications or supplies have gone in or out in years.

They went out of contact shortly after the rise of the Hidden Moon. Now that the Silversong Moon has risen, eclipses have become more frequent. The other Celestial Gluttons have become as active as the mad bird, and the poeple of Erathia grow concerned at the growing threat.
