Treatise of Professional Violence

The Treatise of Professional Violence is the handbook given to all Centurions on reaching that rank, it contains a manual of all drills, logistical concerns, formations, tactics and anything else the Legion determines is useful for an officer to know in the prosecution of a war.
Consider that when in doubt, to flank left. A force should be sent into the middle to engage the enemy, when they are engaged, send a second force up on the left and into the flank of the enemy.
— Excerpt
It is full of practical advice for the Legion to march by and has been hailed as the document that truly professionalised them, it contains not only tactical information but general information about how to behave in the provinces. There is a large section called hearts and mind, which explains that defending a people who hate you is harder than defending a people willing to supply you.   Since the introduction of the book it has become almost required reading for all wanting to join the Legionaries, even to the point where those children who have read it and committed parts to memory are looked upon favorably when it comes to entry to the Legion. It has been hailed as not only one of the finest books written on warfare but also as one of the most critical when it comes to any adversarial situation, it is used in business transactions to gain the upper hand, in politics to out argue an opponent and generally contains advice on most subjects.

Purpose

The purpose of the ToPV is to inform Legionary officers on how to conduct war in the most efficient manner possible, it has been the go-to hand book for the Legion for well over a thousand years and has been subject to many rewrites over it's time.

I love the name and since you asked...! It starts really strong with that big before the quote. Tells me exactly what I'm looking at and why it's interesting. :+1: Maybe add more about it's cultural impact as an additional section. You mentioned it gets used all over the place, so maybe expand on that.   The excerpt is really good and as you expand the article, more of them would be awesome, I think.   Maybe a couple of side panel pictures, showing common formations (like the tortoise etc) could be cool?   Are there any significant revisions or translations? Did it ever fail spectacularly, forcing a rewriting or redaction? Is it as good as they say?   That's what I can think of right now :)
