SC 2023 | Reading Challenge
Confronting the mountain of articles that have been sitting in my reading list!
Let the Reading Begin!
We're pulling up a mug with our favorite sippy, because it's finally time for the reading challenge!
Let's get to it, because boy do I have a long reading list...
Still waiting for my promised "grab your sippy and go worldbuild" mug!

One of the prompts I chose, of course, was the one I sponsored! I really sat down and dug into those articles, so I thought it would make sense to feature them! The other two prompts, however, I chose based on two articles that really stood out to me during the event. I really liked those, so I went on a quest to find others that I'd enjoy!
A powerful organization in your world
Omnifaith Inc by Qurilion
This article by Qurilion was one of the first articles of SummerCamp this year that I got to sit down and read, and it was one that took me through all stages of grief, humor, dread, and amusement. Excellent writing, and a strong capture of the dystopian nature of turning faith into a paid commodity.
Organization structures tend to turn my brain off, but nnie made the content here very engaging with some excellent CSS!
Cults are always exciting, but I love this take on how a goddess can be perceived and revered as a maternal figure!
This article kicks off with some excellent quotes that really set the tone for the organization and its related conflicts!
A species known for its mischievous personality
Tinkits by Stormbril
When I think about mischievous creatures, I can only imagine scrungly little grabby hands, and Stormbril's tinkits embody all of the grabby-handed mischief one could ever want in a creature. The sketches have my heart. I would forfeit all mortal possessions to a tinkit if it only asked for them. But I think we all know they're not going to ask.
If you ever wanted a little fiery friend, these whimsical little creatures may follow you, if you capture their interest!
With wonderful artwork and a delightful tone, this is an article I'm glad I stumbled upon in my search for reading challenge subjects!
Pages come to life — a concept I adore! I had to snap up these interesting creatures for my challenge after it was mentioned in my chapter.
A historical figure still venerated today, and why.
As the community sponsor for this particular prompt, I read 300 articles about venerated historical figures! If you'd like to see a list of twenty of these excellent articles, go check out my SC 2023 Sponsor's Picks!
Because my heart can't take the prospect of making any more cuts, I will allow the D10 of truth decide which three articles I will feature within this article for the purpose of the reading challenge! But you'll be missing out on some real gems if you don't browse the full list!
What a fantastic in-depth article about a prophet in the world of Yeia! I loved the storytelling woven all throughout the article.
I will always appreciate the type of character who appears, does their thing, and then disappears into the proverbial aether.
I feel like I learned a lot about this world outside of just this character's history in this article, and it's something I love! Beautiful storytelling, as well.
Goals & Thoughts
This SummerCamp has been an absolute delight, and it was such a vibrant event to share with the community this year!Feral & Dewy
Thank you everyone who bought in to Camp Feral and really made it shine! Between spreading the feral cheer, partaking in Feral Fridays, and being excellent beans to one another, my feral campers really delivered a high-energy summer, filled with only the best vibes possible! Same goes to my fellow Dewy Diamonds, who I heard were largely successful in meeting their diamond goals... amazing!Feral!Line was born this year, and as I write out my reading challenge article, preparations are being made for their hibernation... but, have no fear. The Feral will awaken again, when the time is right.
I'll be cooking up ways to make the Camp Feral experience even more fun next year! But until then, the feral must take a well-deserved nap... and so should you! A round of naps for the community, on the house!
My Goals for the Rest of 2023
My first goal is to solidify the beginner's experience in Malkora. My SummerCamp yielded some excellent lore for my Kingdom of Arsavela, and one of my goals will be tying those things together more throughout the rest of the year.
With my goal of making Arsavela Malkora's effective "starting zone," I'd like to set up a collection of articles that introduce the region, and the world at large, in a more comprehensive way.
Perhaps it's time to finally start planning that world primer.
My second goal is to identify the secrets of my world.
This goal is a carry-over from last year's SummerCamp, as it's one I never really took the time to properly address. I have lots and lots of secrets in Malkora, as well as information intended for different access levels and subscriber groups, but they're not tucked away in the appropriate ways throughout my articles.
I need to restructure my Patreon, and wonder if I might jump ship to Ko-fi. Once that's settled, I may be able to better identify how my information will be separated.
My third goal is to... take a dang break.
When it comes to time, I often find that it's a resource that simply does not keep itself regularly available to me. When I say "take a break," I really mean that I need to focus on organizing my priorities and stop adding heaping helpings of additional tasks to my plate on a whim.
I'm in the middle of a contract that will keep me very busy well into November — but only if I stay on top of my schedule. I want to be finished before WorldEmber takes off!
I have a lot of other projects I want to dive into. Let's see if we can find pockets of time for them, without preventing me from staying on top of my workload.
Thank you for Feral Fridays during Summer Camp itself! It was always nice to listen in to you reading other folks' articles while I was working and nice to hear you read some of mine. You have some great picks here that I want to go through. Nice to see "Goblins & Trolls" in here after you showcased them on your stream!
Learn about the World of Wizard's Peak.
Feral Fridays were the highlight of the event for me <3 I feel like I never take the time to stop and read others' articles because time gets to be such a blur for me, but this gave me the perfect opportunity to not only read more articles, but share them with others! Looking forward to what fun and exciting content I might stumble upon in future events :)
Seek a new dawn, in Malkora!
