Habitat 7 Settlement in The Future is Now | World Anvil

Habitat 7

Where it all ended, at the Pithos Genesis Research Station.
The Future is Now is a cheesy sci-fi setting set in a nonsense universe where humans were exterminated without a trace eons ago and are long forgotten. The only remnants of humanity is that it's culture survived in a universe full of humanaboos.

If you can't look on the bright side, i'll sit with you in the dark.
Jill

Habitat Status

The station and it's inhabitants are unaccounted for, it is currently irretrievable. Believed to be inside of a black hole and ruined.

Population

Formerly 783 Sentients, currently 0.

Type

Residential module attached to the Pithos Genesis Research Station where nearly every Jill on the station resides.

Climate

The following habitat was designed for Jill. It is extremely standard in every regard, the perfect environment for the average Jill.

Infrastructure

  • Isolated apartments so Jill doesn't see her neighbors. She doesn't like talking to Jill but they get along when they meet.
  • Connected to Pithos Genesis Research Station by Starcar, a ride sharing app with rather, interesting, drivers.

Intercepted Transmission

We all make choices; but in the end our choices make us.
The Silics Institute intercepted the following transmission from within the black hole where Pithos Genesis Research Station was orbiting. The Orthodoxy of the Keikoku Otaku Itai Doctrine states it should be impossible for anything to escape a black hole's gravity, even a transmission. Unfortunately there are no ways to verify the validity of this transmission.
The following information is confidential. Under protection of the Culturate, illegal access may result in the destruction of your immediate kin and their race/home-planet.

The following transmission are confirmed to be the contents of a datadrive from the audiovisual implant from a Jill, likely transmitted automatically due to a dead woman's switch   Access Transmission(WIP, upcoming short story!)

Ooh, very interesting article format! I like the addition of clones named Jill. You have a lot of intrigue in here with little plot hooks, I'm interested to see more from this setting! I have to ask though: What inspired you to make human 'weaboos'? It's something I'm really surprised by, and I had a good laugh.   I JUST REALIZED BEFORE I HIT SEND THAT YOUR FISH PEOPLE'S ACRONYM IS 'KOI' AND I LOVE IT.   There's a few typos/pacing issues, but I'll ping you in the contest channel for them. : D

Thanks for the corrections! I'm glad to hear you like it.
Haha, yea i'm glad you caught that little naming joke.
For the humanaboos thing, I just thought about how interesting culture, even memes are in general. I could easily see an alien race be enamored/horrified by our diverse cultures. So I did the former rather than the latter.

I really love the naming joke, it's really good. And yeah, we see a lot of aliens being freaked out, its neat to see someone play with it : D

love the concept, great layout, it all flows together really well.

Thanks! This was basically a hub page for my Tales Foundry competition articles so i'm glad it looks nice.

Really cute article about the location of conflict, but I wonder how the location can have a conflict if there are no sentient creatures there to have a conflict. Humanaboos are those that are overly obsessed with human culture, am I correct? Might want to add that to your article. Overall very good.

Thanks! I'll clarify that in the article, the station had Sentient creatures and now it doesn't due to the "conflict"

Omg, power-armored tiny koi people XD That is the best. You have some of the most imaginative species in your setting.   Without the story (which I'm guessing'll have the main thrust of the article) it is a bit short: other than standard, I'm not sure what it looked like (though I'm imagining a generic sci-fi space station, which might be the intention ;D ).   Other than the story, how is the module important to the overall TF-story? Were there other modules on the research station, or was this the one? Or do Jills all live by themselves? (although.. I thought Jill didn't like other Jill?)

Thanks! Glad to hear you like the K.O.I they're one my favorite races to work on.

I've made some changes to clarify your questions. Station looks like the image on the Pithos Genesis station article.

This article primarily serves as a hub article that links the other TF articles together.
The other 11 other habitats are briefly mentioned in Pithos but they're not really of importance.
Almost all Jills on the Pithos station live in Habitat 7.
And you're right, she don't like other Jills but she's willing to put her dislike aside in order to connect to The Gathering.

Are you going to continue with this storyline after the challenge? It'd enjoy reading at least one short in this setting.   I like how short the article is, though I had to click on the Space Station link itself to realize its either Jill's apartment or a complex for Jills. Right?   One thing your entries for this challenge have done is get me interested even though I'm not into sci-fi by any stretch of the imagination. The article does come off a bit like a bunch of baited hooks waiting to snag a reader's interest more than a piece of interest itself, though.   This has already been asked, but might as well - is this place abandoned or does everyone just assume that since they cannot contact it, no one is there?

Thanks for the compliments! These TF articles were suppose to generate interest for The Future Is Now.

But yes, i'm also going to write a more serious short story to reflect the dire nature of the TF competition seed.

I've made some changes to clarify your questions but i'll summarize the changes here.

Habitat 7 is a module attached to the Pithos Station and it's basically a large apartment complex for the station's Jills.

The station is considered a lost cause because everyone believes it fell into a black hole, and nothing escapes from a black hole so they can't retrieve it. Also receiving a signal from inside a black hole should be impossible too but that's for the short story.

Awesome. I shall look forward to the story then :) Thank you for answering.
