Sanguin

A dead continent lost in an ancient war. Life in Sanguin is extremely harsh outside the domes, and the land is often referred to as the embodiment of hell. Because of the shape of the continent and the placement of the marsh lakes being like a misshapen smile, images of Sanguin are often used for memes.

The Tribes and Domes

Most of the settlements in Sanguin are temporary and built from tribes who have endured Sanguin's deadly conditions for generations. While the Sanguin Tribes are a mostly travelling people, another separate culture survives on Sanguin in luxury. Known as the 'Dome lands', Edgard is a flourishing environment created by highly sophisticated Mega Domes. Due to the manner in which they were built, the domes are impossible to access by foot, and hence segregated. Nearly all of those living in the domes do not suffer from what is sometimes known as 'Sanguin's Last Curse'.

Geography

Canyons, rock, scattered plains and bone fields line the ground, between occasional marshes and dark water lakes.

Localized Phenomena

A terrible phenomena referred to as ''Sanguin's Last Curse', Sanguin tribes and scavengers living outside the domes often suffer from a range of sicknesses, including Shrinking Bones, Bloodrot, wound sickness, salt sickness and mud-drought. Domeless children in Sanguin are the most likely in the world to be born with damaging mutations, such as limbs that are not fully formed, lost of sight or hearing, or growths on the face or body. Other unexplained mutations may also be present from birth or develop later in life, such as additional organs, including eyes and ears, extra senses such as the ability to sense infrared wavelengths or unusual growths such as gills on the face. Due to this phenomena, the Sanguin tribes often face great discrimination.

History

Half a millennia ago, most of humanity survived on decaying ships. The technology to maintain them was lost and so in a pursuit of survival, most sea nations sought land and created new settlements. Much of the expeditions - although dangerous - were often fruitful in securing resources and promising land.   Expeditions to Sanguin however, was mostly riddled with death.   Though the tribes keep their history tightly to themselves, scientists and historians speculate that the majority of tribes have lived in Sanguin before humanity fled land and survived on ships. This may be because it is very difficult to survive and adapt to Sanguin's conditions, and it is not an environment one would willingly choose to settle in.

Tourism

While tourism in Edgard may be on the increase, tourism in Sanguin is non-existent. Occasional independent traders will negotiate with Sanguin tribes, but mostly it is Sanguin tribes who will travel away from the continent to trade.
