Sandworm Species in Sea Hears | World Anvil

Sandworm

A sandworm is a gigantic worm-like monster with hot, wet sand pouring from its saggy skin and several sets of teeth in jagged rows on the inside and the outside of its throat. At a quick glance, it may seem that the sandworm has only a singke mouth, albeit a humongous, all-encompassing one, but that is not scientifically correct. but that is not scientifically correct. There are in fact, 997 mouths underneath the skin folds, that suck up meat underneath it like a vacuum.

Basic Information

Dietary Needs and Habits

Far away from where the sandworm roam, the species is of great academic interest. Many local people from the Sanguin Tribes know that sandworms only eat during even numbered days. To catch its prey, it will loosen the sand above it with its body, which will cause prey to fall into one of its many burrows across the sand dunes. It will not deliberately injure its prey until its time to eat however, unless it has been attacked by a weapon. In fact, the smell of blood and flesh disturbs the sandworm during odd numbered days.

Behaviour

After discovering its 997 mouths through an experiment that forced air through its lungs, it has been suggested that the sandworm enacts bizarre biological-mathematical patterns.
"But this... beast didn't choose to have 997 mouths." Eric Lau cried.

"That's where you're wrong." Kallone smiled. "The sandworm deliberately creates a new mouth by poking a new hole with its inside muscles. If it makes a mistake and creates too many, then it continues to create a total of 1009."

Eric Lau turned to their guide, who shrugged.

"Outsiders have too much time on their hands." Joshua answered, and took another bite of his sandwich.
