It's that time of year again— Summer Camp. This year I'll be approaching it differently than I have previously— focusing on my health and avoiding burnout first and foremost. That said, I anticipate being able to write some dang good articles regardless!
I'm only aiming for 10 articles this year. As I've found after my past 2 years, going for gold is not healthy. If you commonly find yourself burnt out following Summer Camp, I'd encourage you to join me in putting your health first— write what you can, don't hold yourself to others' standards.
As part of this, I plan to keep an eye out for folk nearing burnout— and will be posting health check-ins and such throughout July to encourage everyone to stay healthy through this challenge.
All that said— let's talk about the actual worldbuilding I'll be doing! I don't know! I'll use all four of my worlds wherever appropriate. If a prompt catches my eye, I'll go for it. I will try to prioritize prompts that fit extant stubs, of course— but if I get inspired I'll have to chase that feeling! If I find that I have energy for more than 10 prompts, I'll do more than 10 prompts! But— I'd appreciate it if folk could hold me accountable for my words here and remind me to stay healthy, too.
I'll slot some extra time into my calendar for worldbuilding— time that would have otherwise been used for other projects— in order to achieve this goal. I'm currently working on getting better about writing something each day, so that I can already be in the groove once Summer Camp hits. I'm also trying to tidy up some CSS here and there before I've got eyes suddenly on several of my worlds.
I also plan to participate in more writing sprints during Summer camp, in order to help hold me accountable, and help others in the process. I do not know if I'll have the time and energy this year to do ample feedback rounds, but I will be open to doing so when asked, and have the feedback channel on my Discord open for those interested.
In the name of encouragement and helping others focus on their health, I am making a series of motivational posters. I've got a bunch already, you'll see more throughout July as I engage with folk and make more. I'll tease with two of them below. I will most likely be putting the whole series of posters for sale in my merch store within the first few days of Summer Camp for those who want them.
It's wonderful to see the focus on mental health first and foremost. Looking forward to seeing what you create, too!
Likewise!
