Nightmare Fuel is a refined material created from the extraction and purification of the blood of unnatural lifeforms that come from another, specific world. Containing an extraordinary amount of Mana, it was used as a specialized type of fuel for various types of machinery and weaponry from 1985 to 2007; developed by the Tower Below Babel. However, after the destruction of the organization after the Black Skies Incident, it is an outlawed fuel that is still being disposed of to this day, classified as a biological hazard to all living organisms.

It was believed that the creation process of Nightmare Fuel was lost after the destruction of the Tower Below Babel. However, in 2017, two years after The Withering, there have been reports of Nightmare Fuel being distrubuted throughout black markets across the world, especially in the American Wasteland. As such, all extant organizations, including the Deepcore Foundation, are making an attempt to dispose of it.

Material Characteristics

Nightmare Fuel takes on a vicious, thick violet fluid, able to stick to one's skin or a piece of clothing with relative ease. When exposed to a large source of Edenite, Nightmare Fuel will begin to glow, especially within the dark.

Physical & Chemical Properties

If you're exposed to Nightmare Fuel, here is what you must do: seal yourself into a room for an hour or longer depending on how much of it you were exposed to, and don't listen to anything you hear. You're going to see things. If needed, heavy sedatives with the purpose of limiting the functions of the part of the brain identified as the hippocampus will be given.

When put into machinery, Nightmare Fuel acts as a long-term fuel source, a gallon of it lasting for an estimated two months without needing to be replaced. Alongside that, due to the energetic nature of the Mana within it, Nightmare Fuel can act as a powerful source for Arcanists. However, the costs for even being near Nightmare Fuel are great.

When exposed to even the air around an exposed container of Nightmare Fuel, the world would begin to shift around in a person's view, making everything appear darker. One would begin to have visual and audio hallucinations for a long period of time, even after the Nightmare Fuel is sealed away; with the things that have been reportedly seen including horrific creatures from another world, screaming and laughing at those who listen. These effects are far stronger when one's skin is exposed to Nightmare Fuel.

There have been claims that those who have Nightmare Fuel on their skin can be injured by these hallucinations. Despite visual evidence showing that there are no injuries, those affected by it will continually insist that they are being stabbed or burned, screaming out in pain. Often at this point, it's been common for people to take heavy sedatives to get pass the effects of Nightmare Fuel. Otherwise, after the duration of time being subjugated to it's effects have passed, people will come out of it suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. On a few rare occasions, people's hearts have straight up stopped from the sheer amount of terror that runs through their bodies.

Nightmare Fuel has been used in a few biological experiments done by the Tower Below Babel. All records of these experiments have been lost to time, though knowledge of it has been the sole reason for why a majority of governments have been cracking down on Nightmare Fuel.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Nightmare Fuel can only be found through unorthodox means, often in black markets located across the world. How these markets have managed to get Nightmare Fuel remains unknown. How people create it nowadays is unknown, as ordinarily, it requires travel to another world entirely to get the materials needed for it.

Storage

Large amounts of Nightmare Fuel are required to be stored in pressurized tanks formed from Depthmektal. Small vials of it, meanwhile, are to be pressurized as well, using reinforced glass and metal to ensure that it is not likely to shatter upon dropping.

Disposal of Nightmare Fuel requires that it be dumped into a source of molten magma.
