Sathoet

A Sathoet (sath'-oht) is a hybrid demonic Elf, born of a Davrin Elf mother and sired by a demon of the Abyss, conceived by a Priestess in ritual to the Spider Queen, Braqth. Through pact, mystery, or game, every Sathoet born to a Priestess in the last three millennia have been sons. There are no female Sathoet.

General Appearance

Sathoet are taller and more muscular than any natural Davrin. They share the black skin and tapered ears of the Dark Elves, though possess a white mane along their spines, from head to lower back. They also have white patches of body hair at the groin, pits, elbows, and knees.

The half-demons favor their sires in a bestial face and snout, yellow eyes without pupils, sharp carnivorous teeth, and claws on hands and feet. The arms are built like a muscular Elf, but the legs are double jointed and digitigrade. They may express a stubby, vestigial tail, but many Sathoet have none

Magic and Heritage

A Sathoet Son can also be called a Grandson of Braqth, and is always the final child to whom a Priestess gives birth as she is left barren as part of the exchange for power. Each is born with a demonic name of power known only by his Priestess-mother, which binds him to her for his entire life. This bond enhances the threshold of his Priestess's magical abilities significantly and raises her rank in the Sanctuary.

Their own mouths are poorly formed for enunciated speech, if they even choose to speak instead of growl and hiss. They seem incapable of learning to read or holding any ambition above base needs; their magic is largely intuitive and symbiotic. In instances which they use magic on their own, Sathoet most often employ it to play a wide variety of tricks upon the senses of others.

Sathoet must be trained in obedience and kept under strict control by his mother when out in public, as the demonbloods are slaves to their impulses, notably hostile toward pureblood children, seeing them as prey, and rapacious once they reach sexual maturity. Feeding these impulses is often a reward for obedience to an indulgent Priestess-mother.

A Sathoet can be as long-lived as the Elven purebloods but their growth and magic inevitably becomes unstable; chaos and insanity is the fated death of these leashed, demonic trophies. Bound to his mother by name, blood, and magic, his decline is also hers. Few Priestess-Mothers live or keep her sanity many turns beyond the death of her son, unable to cope with the loss of magic, status, and child at once.

It is explicitly forbidden for any other Davrin to murder a Priestess's Sathoet. The time of execution is chosen by the Valsharess alone and carried out by the Red Sisters. The sentence for anyone else killing a Sathoet is rarely simple but always ends with the guilty being given to Auranka the Drider Keeper.
