Worg Poaching Tradition / Ritual in Lyra | World Anvil

Worg Poaching

Word poaching is one of the most important moments in the life of any Nayan boy, in some cases, girl. Only those who are lucky, robust and willing manage to survive the adversities of the journey, to the desolate shores of The Frozen Gate and the possible encounter with two fully mature White Worgs may have a chance to secure their very own Worg pup.

The Festival

The ceremony always begins at the port of Naya Ria at the last day of the new harvest festival. During the five days celebration a group of 30 young boys and girls are chosen every year to get a chance to acquire their own young Worg.

The 30 participants are chosen from the winners of the athletics events of the festival. Running, jumping, weight lifting, wrestling, axe throwing, fighting in the arena and of course, Amilanu. The 30 are separated into 3 groups of 10 children each and are celebrated before they embark to, possibly the harderst and most amazing adventure of their life.

Into the Swamp

The first of the trials the children face begins the next morning. All 30 of them are loaded into a ship and transported south, off the shores of the South Ridge Marches. The seasoned hunters spend the next days teaching the children everything they can on how to survive the march and how to track and kill their quarry. After 4 days of travel with the ships just about a kilometer off the shore, each of them are given seven days worth of food, a knife, a spear, and some basic survival equipment. After that the 3 groups jump into the sea and they have to swim to shore. If they evade the electric eels swarming the swallows and make it out of the water alive they have to begin the hunt. Their mission is a simple but very deadly one. Locate a Rimush Ukatnuu kill eat, skin it, remove its teeth eat of its flesh and return with your bounty.

In most cases two out of the three groups return but it has also happend for non all three to come back. Those who come back get to share the spoils. The legend has it that the current Grandmaster of the Black Wolves of Naya Grandmaster Warad-Sin, has managed to lead its team and bring back not one, but three giant alligators.
