White Worg Species in Lyra | World Anvil

White Worg

White worgs, are enormous white wolves found past the Iorian Ocean deep in the Dusk Belts on the islands of the The Frozen Gate.   Domesticated by the Nayan hunterrs and used by the Black Wolves of Naya .

Rites of Passage

A very common rite of passage for young hunters is to join a hunting party from the shores of Naya deep into the duskbelt's frozen expanses. Once there the young hunters a paired with a veteran hunter ans instructed to go find a cave/borrow with a white worg litter and steal one of the pups. If they survive the encounter of stealing the pup (which is no smaller than a full grown grey wolf and twice as strong) they will have to train the worg to become initially their hunting dog and later, if they are accepted into the Black Wolves of Naya their mount.

Basic Information

Anatomy

White Worgs are genetically very similar to the common grey wolf that can be found almost everywhere in Thebia and Viliria but this, possibly seed-mutated creature grows to become over two and a half meters tall and about three to four meters in length when mature.

Genetics and Reproduction

A Worg mother will give birth to three to five pups once every year, most of the pups will not survive the first winter. Some of them will be eaten by their brothers while many will perish due to the lack of food. Only about 2 pups make to adulthood off every litter.   In many ways the abduction of the pups by the Nayan hunters can be considered a blessing in disguise since it guarantees their survival and lowers the pressure the mother has to feed the whole litter.

Oh so basically they have to redomesticate a wolf every time, that's a lot of work! When they steal them, do hey attach the puppy with a rope and just try to drag them back to camp? XD Are the worg mother isolated from the rest of the group or do the hunters have to brave the whole group?
