Worldbuilding Awards - 2025
Hello there! It is once again that freaky time of the year when the good people of World Anvil have the honours of submitting the work we're most proud of for the collective judgement of the masses. Quite a terrifying prospect for many of us, but if you have submitted any of your articles or worlds this time around, then well done! The hardest part after that is probably the dampening of one's expectations, as hope can both be a great and wonderful thing that keeps us going, but it can also lead to crushing defeats and broken dreams.
After a great deal of deliberation and the encouragement of the wonderful and most groovy Mochi, I have decided that the time has come to try to win the Best World award with Lethea. It's been my main world since I first magically appeared on this platform back in 2018, nearly 8 long years ago. For a while I thought that the world was too much of a mess as many of the articles are outdated since Lethea has transformed a lot over the years, but on further inspection I believe that what I have is great on its own and something to be proud of despite the doubt gnawing within that thick skull of mine.
As for the Best Article category, I went for my recent Aiterean article. It had a fantastic reception during World Ember, going as far as to winning the language category, so clearly it's got something good going on with it. I had also considered submitting Tiyla the Blessed or the House of Pentiwichen for this category as those two articles took a lot of work and I'm rather satisfied with how they came out, but in the end I left them to compete in the Hearts & Minds and Rise of Nations categories. I am somewhat concerned that due to the length of those two article they'll end up being at a disadvantage since with so many other wonderful articles to read getting through two articles that are over 5k words long might be a tad intimidating, but hopefully they will still have a fair shot at victory.
No maps from me this year, I'm afraid. I could have potentially used an older map, but in the end I figured I'd skip this year. Hopefully, I will be able to return next year with a nice finished map of Lethea, assuming people will even be able to open the damn thing on WA, considering how massive that map is. I've been working on it for so many years that I've sort of lost track, but I think it's been roughly four years now, during which I moved countries, learned the local language to the point where I can now read novels fairly well, and by the time it'll be finished I'll have also returned to my homeland. Who knew making a map would be a greater effort than learning Danish?
Anyway, that's enough of my excessive yapping for now! Have a good WAWA everyone and best of luck with all your worldbuilding and writing endeavours <3
