Brie's caves

Iphars is being reworked! Please bear with me!

Brie's cave is a labyrinthine cave system located under Ennoid, discovered by Brie Ataad decades ago.

Geography

This cave system is as big as Ennoid and seems to have more than one "level". They are naturally created caves and not very safe in most of the places. There are 5 entrances to the cave system, not all of them safe to use. The caves are interconnected between them, and tunnels going nowhere. The caves seem to have their floors at more or less same high, the roof of the caves are not at same high (highest is 2 metres under surficie and the lowest 7 metres under the surface). While the floor are more of same high, tunnels do not follow same rule and can go up a few metres to then go down again, and caves in the northen side of the island seem to be higher than the ones in the south. There are 11 slopes or holes that go down the next "level" of the cave system. While the "first level" is fully explored and barely waterlogged, the "second level" is barely explored as the little that has been explorer is mostly waterlogged.

Fauna & Flora

Flora

In the walls of the cave system there are different species of fungi and moss though they only cover small parts of the cave system and are moslty found on the "first level". On water and mostly in the "second level" there is different algae species. In some high caves, in the roof, roots of plants from the plants of the surface.

Fauna

Small mammals and insects are the most common fauna one can find in these caves. There have been a couple of species of bigger mammals that call these caves home, one of them eat fungi and algae, but the other one eats small mammals and are believed to be the culprits of some strange deads of sapients and lost animals.

Natural Resources

The caves are mostly empty aside the ocasional fauna, flora and the organic rests of the fauna one can find. But exploration teams have found patches of Mesertine and other crystals around some of the lowest caves. The teams have extracted them all during all these years they have been around but they expect to find more and in bigger quantities in the "second level" even thoough they have found none in the small zone they have explored.

History

Caves under Ennoid surface are know to exist since the first sapient species discovered the island, but they were believed to be independant caves rather than a gigantic cave system that traveses all Ennoid because they were never explored as people have enough materials to recollect from the surface of the island.
The first person to explore this caves was Brie Ataad, an adventurer that was hoping for some job, mostly an exploration job. When they arrived Kishidu 40 years ago, they found out a person was lost and they were last seen near an entrance to the Brie's caves. Brie Ataad took the job and went where the person was last seen. When Brie reached the cave's entrance, their curiosity grew too much and they decided to enter the cave. They found the missing person there, killed by a beast while he seemed to be mining some crystals. After Brie returned to Kishidu with the dead missing people and collected the money from the job, they dedicated themselves to explore the cave, soon to be discovered that it was a cave system.
Since then the caves are being explored, slowly but safely. When Brie Ataad died a couple of years ago, the exploring team mourned for a week, named the caves in honor of Brie, and then slowly went back to explore them.

Very nice article! I'm quite curious about the beasts you mention, especially the one who seems to be killing some sapients. Hopefully we'll get to learn more about them some day!

Interesting - I wonder what the caves were like before they were waterlogged. It's really nice that people named the caves after Brie after they died.
