Sorcerer in Erenel | World Anvil

Sorcerer

This Sorcerer article features subclass options for Erenel players in 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons. The article will be updated over time as new subclasses are released! Some subclasses are only available for Gamingbrew Patrons!

When it comes to drawing forth their abilities in times of need, sorcerers have it easy compared to other characters. Their power not only rests within them, but it likely takes some effort to keep it at bay. Every sorcerer is born to the role, or stumbles into it through cosmic chance. Unlike other characters, who must actively learn, embrace, and pursue their talents, sorcerers have their power thrust upon them.   Because the idea of an innately magical being traveling among them does not sit well with many folk, sorcerers tend to breed mistrust and suspicion in others they come across. Nonetheless, many sorcerers succeed in overcoming that prejudice through deeds that benefit their less magically gifted contemporaries.   Sorcerers are often defined by the events surrounding the manifestation of their power. For those who receive it as an expected birthright, its appearance is a cause for celebration. Other sorcerers are treated as outcasts, banished from their homes after the sudden, terrifying arrival of their abilities.

Aboleth Spawn

You are a descendant from the aboleth, horrific aberrations with telepathic might that seek to enslave life forms of the mortal realm. After their empire was destroyed by the true gods, the aboleth plot patiently, weaving elaborate schemes across eons thanks to their flawless memories. Perhaps you are a humanoid spawn created by an aboleth or an unlucky descendant engulfed by their power. Whatever the origin, the aboleth has never forgotten you.

Blood Bound

Considered one of the most nefarious magics, Hematurgy blood magic draws its power from the life essence found in the blood of living creatures. You, or someone from your lineage, have delved deep into this taboo art and emerged stronger for it. While viewed as macabre in nature, you understand the blood’s importance and how to use this vital fluid to further your own goals.

Creator

Your innate magic comes from the spark of a creator god. Most often, sorcerers with this origin can trace their descent back to an Architect, powerful creator gods who each shape a universe in their image. In Erenel, your ancestors may have aided Al’Madoon during the forgotten era, using their divine spark to help the Architect breathe life into creation before the great sacrifice. Without the creator’s influence, your divine spark allows you to split a small portion of yourself and fuel creations you’ve made with crafting prowess.

Dryad Bloodline

It is one thing to claim lineage from the fey; it is another to carry their magical prowess into combat. Your innate magic comes from fey blood that has mingled with your blood or that of your ancestors. Sorcerers with this origin could be direct descendant or have family members caught in the affairs of fey creatures.   While wild magic is often associated with the fey, you hold a unique influence over plant life thanks to a dryad influence. This tie results in a more subtle approach, compared to other fey creatures.

Everfrost

Within every infernal realm, below the torturous fire and brimstone, is a cold, dark place far from celestial light, forever frozen over. Be it a piece of the ever-frozen ice from below that has embedded itself within you, or your ancestors having made an ancient pact with one of its denizens to survive a harsh winter, your body is forever touched by this infernal cold. It is up to you to decide if your heart is truly made of ice.
Available only for Gamingbrew Patrons. If you are a Patron the sub class will appear below.

Fiend Bloodline

Tracing your lineage to the depths of the Below, fiendish blood burns in your veins, granting a mastery of hellfire. Your innate magic comes from fallen Elves, who willingly fell with the Lord Below, only to be rewarded by being twisted into the devils and demons we know today. The power of your ancestry is a constant struggle. You may be overly cruel, quick to anger, or incredibly chaotic. Small horns, long fingernails, or other devilish characteristics will have shaped your appearance as you've aged. Do you hide your heritage under a hooded cloak, or do you embrace the hellfire?

Kitsune Bloodline

Your innate magic comes from the mystical power of the kitsune, supernatural foxes known for their mischievous nature and shapeshifting capabilities. Most often, sorcerers with this origin claim a kitsune for an ancestor or have become entangled in a kitsune’s life in some way. Whatever its origin within you, you possess the unique ability to influence behavior, either to impart wisdom or cause mischief.

Mimic Bloodline

Your bloodline has been tainted, and your lineage was thrown into chaos. Mimic blood clouds your veins, allowing you to do incomprehensible things. At the end of the day, you leave your allies wondering, is it a gift or a curse?   As a Mimic Bloodline sorcerer, you decide how your bloodline was infused with mimic blood. Perhaps your ancestors are the results of a strange wizard experiment, or a curse has befallen your lineage by a sadistic hag. Whatever the case, as your experience increases, you learn to master the art of transmutation and can even assume the form of objects.

Phantom Bloodline

Your innate magic comes from your death and resurrection. Your life ended in a horrific event such as a ghost’s possession, a lycanthrope's attack or a vampire’s fangs. This tragic event left its mark on your soul, and upon your resurrection, a piece of your existence remains locked in the ethereal plane. Now, your vision of the spirit world is never-ending. Hidden from others, memories of those who have fallen are a constant reminder of your power.

Phoenix Bloodline

Your innate magic comes from the phoenix, a bird born from the fires of rebirth in Ignathar, the elemental plane of fire. Your powers might have manifested from a near-death experience causing you to rise like the firebird or from coming into contact with the magnificent creature.

Royal Bloodline

The power of your royal ancestry has suffused you with magic and emboldened your soul. Whether you are an inheritor to the throne of a kingdom, a forgotten offspring denied legitimacy or a distant relative to an emperor, the power of king’s blood flows within you. Thanks to your royal bloodline, you enjoy a natural magnetism, which is often conveyed from your commanding voice and majestic presence. Perhaps you are unaware of the source of your power, since it does not come from distant planes or the supernatural, but instead from the raw power of aided ambition.

Spellblade

Your innate abilities come from surviving a dangerous arcane ritual performed by warrior mages who suffused you with war magic. After your near-death experience, you begun to develop the arcane art of the spellblade, bonding with and controlling weapons thanks to your ability to manipulate arcane magic. As a Spellblade sorcerer, you decide how you acquired your powers. Were they passed on by a relative who survived the arcane ritual? Or did you seek an order of warrior mages to perform the ritual, believing the reward outweighed the risk?
