Bearsharktopus Species in Erenel | World Anvil

Bearsharktopus

A strange amalgamation in every sense of the word, the Bearsharktopus features the body of a brown bear with long octopus tentacles in place of arms alongside the head and fin of a great white shark. Many have come to know this massive monstrosity as an aggressive killer, but few know its origins as the crowning achievement of the wizard simply known as the “Stitcher.”

The Stitcher

The first Bearsharktopus is believed to have been designed on the operating table. Instead of needle and thread, the Stitcher wove arcane sigils, stapling the various animal parts together as the Stitcher assembled each section of its creation. With the last piece assembled and the ritual complete, the Bearsharktopus rose to life, only to immediately slaughter their creator.   After gorging on its meal, the Bearsharktopus searched for a large body of water and, finding a secluded cave, began an 8-week hibernation. Upon awakening, the Bearsharktopus forcefully split into a perfect clone as the arcane sigils exploded in an apotheosis of teal light.

Reproduction

After filling its belly and hibernating underwater for 8 weeks, a Bearsharktopus forms a perfect replica of itself. After replicating, the newly formed creature feels an overwhelming need to leave the area and search for a territory to call its own.   This reproductive cycle, combined with the creature's ferocity and territorial instinct, helps keep the Golden Claw hunter's guild employed until the last amalgamation is removed from Erenel.
