Group Connections

A Group Connections is a well-defined collection of people who share a similar Path or are directly related. Your character is deeply involved in this group either as a member or as someone trusted by them. Maintaining Group Connections takes a great deal of effort, therefore, the character does not have a connection to all of these groups; the player must choose one. Some groups may only be joined with certain path choices, like vampire Clan and Covenant. And some path choices preclude other choices like being turned by the blood of a Vampire Clan. Group connection are also known as factions, community, and organizations.

Each Path has one to five dots. You can either spend these dots to gain additional groups, or you can apply multiple dots to a single group (increasing their level). In other words, a Path rating of five means that you can either have five single dot groups who represent five sources of information or utility, or you can have a single five dot group who very much fits the bill of “Jack of all Trades.” Each group starts with one dot (representing their level) and one tag. Tags define the types of tasks a group can assist your character in attempting to achieve. Each additional dot placed on a single group grants them an additional tag and an additional level. A five-dot group, therefore, has five tags attached to them. A group rating may not be higher than its path rating, unless a rule specifically says so. The Player chooses one group at character creation, with a tag.

Suggested Group Tags

  • Employees / Employer (has access to a workspace and work equipment)
  • Family (blood relations with senses of obligation and affection)
  • Fans (people who’ll perform trivial but widespread actions for you)
  • Gang (has access to a criminal underworld)
  • Influential (will aid in Attitude or convincing others)
  • Information (skilled at providing clues)
  • Numerous (gain 5−10 followers per dot)
  • Staff (VTR/COD - same as numerous tag)
  • Technologists (know all about the latest vehicles and inventions)
  • Training (people you can see to refine your skills)
  •

    Kindred Group Tags

  • Herd (see Herd Edge below)

  • Gained with Edges.
      Herd Edge
    (• to •••••) [VTR112]

This Edge grants a 1 dot Group with the Herd tag or increases an existing Herd Group by 1 dot. This group is limited by your Herd Edge, not a Path rating. A Herd Group may only be established or increased with the Herd Edge.

Effect: Your character cultivates cliques of mortals willing and eager for the Kiss. Each week, you can draw on a number of Vitae equal to twice the Group dot rating. This requires no roll, only a quick interlude. Taking more than that amount requires normal hunting rolls.

Drawback: Addicts need their fix. Sometimes, they demand attention. If neglected, they’ll withdraw. Your character must have at least minor interactions with her Herd before they’ll give blood freely.

    Obligations & Complications

Group obligations can be costly, as while groups can possess diverse talents, making them more flexible than contacts, trying to corral a body of people into action comes with an inherent Complication. Using them in any way that goes against their nature or natural course, such as organizing a group of fans to rob a store, or using your family as recipients of an experimental alchemical augmentation means when you use them and make your roll, it comes with a Complication. Groups will also expect something in return if called upon regularly. When this happens, their need supplants one of your character’s.

    Example Connections

The Social Connection system above is derived from Vampire the Requiem 2nd Edition, Storypath, Trinity Continuum and They Came from Beyond the Grave. These rules have been edited and revised for clarification and are presented here only as a game aid.
