The gnomes at Gnome Workshop didn’t stop at building Margo’s printing press; they also engineered a marvel they call the Focalizer, a compact and portable device capable of capturing the likeness of a person or object in astounding detail. Small enough to fit into a satchel, the Focalizer can be adjusted to lock onto a specific subject, automatically reorienting itself to maintain a perfect focus on the target. "Once set, it meticulously captures every curve, angle, and contour with remarkable precision, producing an image as true-to-life as one could imagine." At least that's what the brochure says. Quality isn't that overwhelming, though.
Dimensions: 15x15x15cm
Power: for 1 hour, recharge 20 hours
Storage: 10 image crystals However, the gnomes cautioned Margo about the Focalizer's limitations. While its central focus area boasts impressive clarity, anything outside this zone appears as a rough approximation. The further an object is from the central focus, the blurrier and more abstract it becomes. This makes it difficult to capture larger scenes or complex landscapes in fine detail, but for portraits, small objects, or close-up subjects, the Focalizer performs flawlessly. To add to its functionality, the Focalizer comes equipped with a "hover mode." With a flick of a switch, the device levitates a few feet off the ground and follows the designated target, gracefully adjusting its position to keep the subject in view. This floating mode lasts for up to an hour before the Focalizer begins a slow descent, at which point it requires a 20-hour recharge before it can hover again. The images captured by the Focalizer are stored in small, enchanted crystals, each capable of holding a detailed snapshot of the focused subject. To transfer these images onto paper, a user simply places the crystal over a sheet of specially treated paper, then shines a steady light source through it. The magic within the crystal reacts with the treated surface, slowly imprinting the image onto the paper in vivid detail. The process creates a beautifully lifelike rendering with subtle shadings and contours that rival the finest illustrations. However, the process requires a steady hand and patience, as any interruption in light or movement can distort the final image. For best results, Margo and her fellow artists at Gnome Workshop have developed a setup they call the “Illumination Box,” which holds the crystal and paper securely in place, casting light evenly to ensure a flawless transfer.
Months later, Gnome Workshop has developed an advanced version of the previous Focalizer, following the requirements given by Margo after experimenting with the first version
Dimensions: 10x20x25cm
Power: for 8 hours, recharge 6 hours
Storage: 50 image crystals
Invisibility Cloak Mode: The most exciting new feature is the Focalizer's ability to become completely invisible while in operation. By activating a specialized enchantment, the device shimmers out of sight, ensuring it can capture candid moments without interfering with the subject’s natural behavior. This makes it perfect for documenting elusive wildlife, secretive magical beings, or even spontaneous moments of joy. The invisibility mode engages seamlessly and does not affect the device's focus or image clarity. Extended Active Time: The Spectral Pursuer has been imbued with upgraded energy reserves, allowing it to function for up to six hours continuously. This is double the active time of the original model, enabling it to capture entire adventures, events, or lengthy artistic sessions without interruption. After reaching its limit, the device requires only a six-hour recharge, making it ready for use much faster than its predecessor. Advanced Hover Mode: Building on the original hover functionality, the Spectral Pursuer can now follow its designated target with unparalleled precision for the full 8-hour active period. Using advanced motion-sensing enchantments, it glides silently and effortlessly, even navigating tight spaces or tricky terrain. Its hover is now smoother and quieter, ensuring it doesn’t disrupt its surroundings. The device is also equipped with a retractable hook at its base, allowing the owner to securely attach a bag or backpack for hands-free convenience. Improved Image Capture and Storage: The enchanted crystals used for image storage have also received a refinement. The new crystals have a higher capacity, allowing them to hold more intricate details and even capture subtle magical auras that the original Focalizer couldn’t record. Additionally, the focus zone has been slightly expanded, reducing the blur effect at the edges of captured images while retaining the sharp central clarity the device is known for. Enhanced Illumination Box Compatibility: To complement the advancements of the Focalizer V2, the Illumination Box has been upgraded with improved stabilization mechanisms and light diffusers. This ensures that transferring images from the new crystals is smoother and quicker, with less risk of distortion during the process. Spectral Neutralisation and Aesthetic Processing (S.N.A.P.): An image filter that "adjusts" reality by smoothing imperfections, enhancing colours, and occasionally adding whimsical sparkles where they definitely weren’t before. Perfect for making even the grumpiest gnome look photogenic!
