Vosagon

Voh-sah-gon

Dotted all over the isles of Ves Palu are hundreds of mysterious Menhirwood Monoliths. These have been on the island for thousands of years and have become a part of Ves Paluvian traditions; some appear on their own and others appear in standing circles.   The Rakuwan inhabitants of Ves Palu had a few theories about how these monoliths came to be, and the most popular tale is that these bark-like pillars were once ancient trees imbued with magic.

The islanders chipped off flakes of stoney bark from the monoliths and used the Menhirwood to create exquisite sea vessels that could glide across the water with the unique stabilising qualities of the bark. As the ships became more popular, traders increased the demand on this material and the Ves Paluvians hacked away at their Menhirwood, until one crumbled so much that it revealed the true nature of the monoliths.   They began to hatch.

Vosagon swathe their larvae in spit, wood pulp and ground up slate to create a protective cocoon that it can grow in. After three years of growth, the Queen will return to the cocoons to release the new generation into their freedom. Until sunlight falls upon their eyes, the hibernating Vosagon stay in a deep near-death sleep.
