Black Coast Baked Apples
A warm and spicy treat for a cold rainy day
Black Coast baked apples are a traditional warm and spicy treat that is enjoyed on wet and rainy old days in North Meles. The recipe hails from the Peak District in the town of Buckle (although they may have learnt this recipe from foreign traders and sailors).
It's a very simple recipe, cheap and cheerful that warms up your spirits. Sailors prefer to swap out the cyder with spiced rum or port instead to get a better warming sensation (and they wash it down with a full mug of it, too).
The recipe is best prepared in batches, as individual portions take a lot of work and careful measurements as to not be wasteful with ingredients.
Manufacturing process
Use a small sharp knife to core the apples, leaving a hole in the middle that does not go through the base (or the filling will leak out). Mix the chopped walnuts, dried berries, ginger, cinnamon, spices, Barlor Butter and sugar in a bowl with one bottle of King's Orchard Cyder.
Carefully spoon the mixture into the prepared apples, and then cook them in an oven until almost burnt. You can also cook them at the fireside, but it takes much longer and you will need to turn each apple periodically.
