Used by arcanists to provide a temporary boost to their powers. Kiberian salt, when mixed with water (must be purified water otherwise it negates the effect that Kiberian salt has), creates a salve. This salve is applied directly to skin, often in the form of arcanic symbols or perceived ‘words of power’. Some users may also consume the salve, though this is not recommended as Kiberian salt is quite toxic and can make the individual in question extremely ill.

Kiberian salt is found in the mines of Kiberia. It is a byproduct produced from mining silver, particularly that in the Blood Vein mines to the west.

It was found to enhance magical powers through trial and error. Ancient arcanists during the Lightfall era were determined to find new ways to improve over their enemies, rivals and even friends, and often that meant searching for rare materials or combining various materials to try and create quick improvements.

The arcanist Jakel was the first to discover the power hidden within Kiberian salt. Mixing a batch of it with purified water was entirely an accident; Initially, he had meant to mix it with a rare herb from Cermia. At first, he tried consuming the salve, gaining a great if decidedly short boost to his magical abilities. Afterwards though, he became seriously ill - a side effect of the toxic properties of Kiberian salt. For his second trial he attempted to apply the salve on his skin. Although the increase to his magical abilities was not as great, Jakel found that his powers would remain at an increased level until the salve had been completely removed from his skin.

Extensive research into ancient arcanists of the Lightfall era suggests that Jakel did not reveal to his allies the true extent to which Kiberian salt (and purified water) could improve their magical abilities until he was on his deathbed. Even then, his reveal of such information only extended to his closest allies: long time best friends Markeph and Sakyr, as well as his lover Tully.

After his death, it didn’t take long for word to spread. Evidence points towards Markeph being the one to reveal such information. He was known for being excessively proud and boastful, especially when drunk, so it is not so much a stretch to believe that the information came from him.
