The godslayer was a weapon used by Zaldir on the final day of the God War. It is also known by a few other names, including "The Last Resort", "Blood of the Faithful", "Last Stand", and "Bloodforged". The weapon now lays scattered across the continent of Vehasi, the location of the last stand of the divine resistance.
On the final day of the God War, Zaldir used the Godslayer to kill Sesais while she was distracted and weakened. In the final confrontation, he faced the rest of the gods. In the altercation, both his own sword and the one wielded by his opponent were shattered.
History
Godslayer is the only weapon of its time to have been forged in all of the world's history. In the last days of the God War, its schematics were created by Gidarr, originally a god of the forge, at the request of Zaldir. Its key component was the soul of one of Zaldir's faithful - a member of the Knights of Zaldir. There is a bit of mystery surrounding whose soul exactly is connected to the sword, as well as the qualities that Zaldir and Gidarr were looking for. What is known is that once their soul was transferred into the weapon, infused with the blood from their body, the sword gained some of the soul's old personality. On the final day of the God War, Zaldir used the Godslayer to kill Sesais while she was distracted and weakened. In the final confrontation, he faced the rest of the gods. In the altercation, both his own sword and the one wielded by his opponent were shattered.
Shards of the Godslayer
Broken from the sword's hilt during the God War, shards from the weapon's blade are scattered across the planes. These shards hold only a fraction of the sword's original power, but still remain incredibly unstable and dangerous on their own. Some of the larger fragments have been used to cut Rifts between the planes, while smaller ones have been made into magical weapons. One notable such weapon is Bloodletter, currently owned by the single surviving member of the Knights of Zaldir. Other notable shards are held in the University of Solimé, in the Meidal Museum of Divinity, by the Cobalt Sun, and by various sects of the Cult of Zaldir.Hilt of the Godslayer
The hilt of the weapon is its largest remaining part. It is the only part of the sword still in the possession of Zaldir, though it holds little power compared to its original, full, form. Zaldir himself has no clear use for the hilt, it being useless against his confines and nowhere near as powerful as the other artifacts of the Nine Hells. Some believe he keeps it out of some sentimental attachment to the sword, though most scholars agree that the king of the devils is not the type for sentimentality.
