Bloodletter is a small ritual dagger created from a shard of the shattered Godslayer - the weapon belonging to Zaldir during the God War. The blade is longer than most daggers, though shorter than a typical shortsword. The hilt is made of black stone and wrapped in leather. Beneath the letter are etched runes in Eillakkithe, the language of the Nine Hells. These runes channel the blade's magic into potent and dangerous energy to be used by the weapon's wielder.

History

The shard of the Godslayer used to create Bloodletter was found not long after the sword broke, in the year 3 A.G.W. It was found by members of the Cult of Zaldir. However, it did not stay in their posession for long, confiscated by Rhinaeya the Blue, said to still hold Bloodletter to this day. She saw the potential in this shard, its shape that of a long, thin blade. She had a hilt specially crafted to make use of its power, and refined and sharpened the blade.
Over the centuries, there are a few accounts where Bloodletter appears to have been used. There are some assassinations of key political figures who are suspected to have met their end at the hand of this blade, though these suspicions are hard to confirm. The mark of Bloodletter's blade is a permanent wound: cuts made with Bloodletter take longer to close, and when they do, their scars are prone to reopening when exposed to magic. Wounds from Bloodletter will always remain open if the bearer of said wounds is within the Nine Hells, and will begin to rot if they enter the Abyss. It is almost certainly lethal in the latter circumstance.

Significance

To members of the Cult of Zaldir, Bloodletter is a symbol of his strength and of his power. It is a coveted artifact, and many members of his cult consider it the highest honour to get their hands on the weapon - a weapon forged from the remnants of his mightiest accomplishment, created in devotion to him. None, however, have managed to get a hold of it. Few have even managed to find it, outside of those who are already aware of where it is. Its owner guards the weapon religiously, considering the blade her birthright and hers alone. All who have tried to take the blade from her have had their lives cut short, bleeding out from their wounds.

Oooo, yikes. I love that the wounds given by this blade have special properties.   Beautiful choice of header image too.
