Tellurica Geographic Location in The Rune-Lands of Tellurica | World Anvil

Tellurica

Navia • Midian • Chthon

The thing with starting at the beginning of things is that in picking one, you kind of have to ignore everything that happened before it, like it didn't matter. But something has always happened before. This is important to note, and so in the spirit of beginnings I'll frame that one and put a big, blinky light on it to let you know it'll be important after the official Beginning® has gotten on with it and things are well underway.

The triworld of Tellurica swims through the   ">Todash in a yearly orbit around a star called Helion.

Geography

Navia, the Overworld

Hyperborea

The Northern continent of the Overworld disc. A rugged land, it is replete with natural resources, breathtaking vistas, and powerful sources of magic. The Holy Cathrican Empire claims this continent, although several other civilizations make it their home. It is a land of tumult and trouble, and has been the largest focus of our adventures to date.

Kayakume

The continent claimed by the Empire of Kyoinotomi. It is the only continent with holdings which extend beyond the edge of the world. Each spring, this promontory travels through a dimensional weak spot to the Abyss, beginning a season-long invasion of the Material by demons of that plane. This is known as the Demon Rain, and most of the rest of the Kyoinotomese year is spent preparing for it.

Akkodia

Modern Akkodia is a vibrant and prosperous place. With its glittering metropoli, booming economies, and seemingly endless natural resources, it has enjoyed centuries of steady growth and abundance.

Axia
might be the smallest of the continental landmasses of Navia, but given its immense arsenals and the fact that the world quite literally revolves around it, it can be forgiven for seeing itself the most important and powerful nation on the disc.

A'Tuan

The great western continent of is the birthplace of Ashtarism. Given to the Crusaders who survived as a homeland to replace the ones destroyed by the Crusade

Midian, the Madlands

“All things are true. God's an Astronaut. Oz is Over the Rainbow, and Midian is where the monsters live."
- Peloquin, in Cabal by Clive Barker

Midian is the elemental chaos between Navia & Chthon. It is the source of all elemental matter and energy in Tellurica and boasts unprecedented access between the Material and Elemental planes. Where genasi pioneers have tamed the border regions, interplanar cities like Anku and Jhepax have arisen from interdimensional trade. The mid-world is no place for the faint-hearted, however, and the chaotic nature of these lands make navigating them difficult for those not accustomed to their randomness.

Chthon, the Underworld

The lower of the two discs which sandwich the midworld between them, Chthon is always tilted slightly away from the sun, making it a natural repository for the necrotic energies of the Shadowfell. Like Navia, it has five continents and three moons.

Stygia is the continent-city which sits in the centre of Chthon. As the negative counterpart to Axia, it is the largest and most overcrowded of the Deadlands.

Subombreais the dark, deep forested continent which dominates the Chthonic North.

Aphotica, Atramento &

Caligino

are the moons of the Underworld.

Elemental Rings of Tellurica

The Rings which circle the discs of the world and hem in the sky serve as the Runelands substitute for elemental planes. Within each ring you will find elemental demiplanes as infinite as the aether and as expansive as the Abyss. There's one set of rings for each of the four elements, and a postulated fifth one for magic.

Fun Fact

As the physical homes of the elemental ancestors of the Djinai of Peradua, the elemental rings have a subset of astrology dedicated to each of them, and feature heavily into the Way of Five Rings philosophy practiced by the martially-minded Djinasi.
