Scope

The motivation behind building OmniVerse

OmniVerse is the culmination of hundreds of ideas I've built up and imagined over the years, starting from when I was first experimenting with storytelling through roleplays I have done with some close friends of mine to today. I'm wanting to build a world that has as much depth as possible while having a detailed and complex story.

The goal of the project

My major goals for this project are as follows:
  1. Create a multitude of worlds that are detailed as can be, with plenty of art and original music that can be found throughout.
  2. Create multiple unique stories for the worlds that explore various themes and topics; especially those of hope, faith and losing it, existence, technology and how it can be used to either harm or hurt people, the beautiful tragedy of love, abuse, suicide, escapism, nostalgia, time travel and the passage of time, how much control we have over our own fates, and legacy.
  3. Take an in-depth and realistic look into technology of the future and of the world of magic, deconstructing general things that are common in those genres while taking a creative spin on them.
  4. Possibly, with the creation of the stories for OmniVerse, create games that take place in these worlds. Current idea is to use RPG Maker MZ to make these stories. One day in the distant future, I would love to create an open-world game that takes place in this universe with its own story, with plenty of interactive elements.
While the last one, I'm uncertain on if I will ever manage to get to that point, I will hold onto this possibility. If I can atleast accomplish the first two goals, I will be happy.

OmniVerse's Unique Selling point

Each world shall be unique in its stature, along with having their own mythologies and histories that I hope would appeal to everyone. OmniVerse will be vast in that each thing shall be connected to each other while keeping their own individualness.

Theme

Genre

Supernatural, Adult, Science Fantasy, Alternative History, & Surreal. While Omniverse will explore various topics and genres as It's written, the five genres that it can definitively fit into overall are as follows:
  • Supernatural ~ Horrifying monsters and odd, sometimes strange and unexplainable magical things seen throughout the world and the other worlds in OmniVerse.
  • Adult 18+ ~ Not-safe-for-work themes are going to be explored throughout OmniVerse, stuff that will be difficult to write. Themes of suicide, depression, abuse, and phobias will be explored. Sexual abuse is not something I am willing to touch at this time.
  • Science Fantasy ~ The elements of magic and technology will be seen throughout OmniVerse, being embraced and deconstructed all throughout.
  • Alternative History ~ The world's creation and subsequent history will be explored, with major significant differences from our history being seen throughout; especially in regard to events caused by Time Travel.
  • Surreal ~ Overall, things will be surreal throughout the worlds, between terrifying and strange monsters to eldritch gods; from living ice monsters to magically-enhanced special forces, OmniVerse will be as grand as it is surreal.

Reader Experience

I want the readers to be in awe of the scope and creativity that I hope to put on display with my world. Alongside that, I hope to terrify them, and make them wonder about the world around them.

Reader Tone

OmniVerse is going to be dark, taking a critical look at the world and various elements of life, as well as playing with tropes and exploring several genres in it.

Recurring Themes

Of the themes mentioned underneath the Scope of the project, OmniVerse's recurring themes will be of hope, technology's woes and wonders, and fate. One more theme that will be explored is the idea of 'Promise'.
  • Hope ~ The hope people can have even in the darkest times and darkest places, for the future or otherwise.
  • Technology ~ The dangers and joys that technology can bring, and how it can be abused.
  • Fate ~ The repetition of things throughout fate and how much control we have over it.
  • Promise ~ The promises people make every day, about dreams and desires of protection, to help people, to get them through tough times, everything. Promises are a common thing that will be made and implied throughout OmniVerse. They will be made and broken and kept throughout all of OmniVerse.

Character Agency

The idea of agency in OmniVerse will be a tricky subject in all regards. The idea will be that there is a certain level of connectedness between each world in OmniVerse that has greater consequences for everything else; so while the characters can change the world; sometimes those changes may not be for the better. However, it's not to say that one shouldn't try to change the world; as there will be times when people will make a large difference to others and the extended universe around them.

Focus

Story & Character

A large part of OmniVerse will be about the stories seen and told throughout the world, and the histories that either result from them or are being made in those stories. Alongside that, there will be focus on characters found throughout the worlds and how they altered the world or made a difference for people, good and bad. There will be three sets of stories told throughout OmniVerse:

Major Fabula

Overarching stories that will generally involve multiple worlds or have greater ramifications for the entirety of OmniVerse. These stories are able to stand on their own.

Universal Fabula

Stories that, while mostly contained in their own worlds, can also influence events and things in other worlds because of what happens in them.

Side Fabula

Individual stories focused on specific characters throughout the universe, of whom are of significant importance to the various worlds.

Fantasy Deconstruction

Fantasy is something I wish to mess around with and take a different, more realistic and darker look at how these settings would go and how elements in them, such as mana and the various races that can exist in these worlds, would go.

Supernatural Horror

Self-explanatory, there will be plenty of horror and terror found throughout OmniVerse with all the terrible things that can be done with magic, as well as with science and technology, and the darkness that comes about from horrible people existing in the worlds.

Drama

Wars & Disasters

The Frost

In an offshoot of the main timeline that has occurred on March 23rd, 1954, The Frost is undergoing a world-wide frozen nightmare that has engulfed the entire world as a result of several magically-enhanced nuclear bombs that has lasted to the current day, January 3rd, 2020. As of right now, there doesn't seem to be any chance of the cold nightmare leaving them.

Earth

Earth has become a living hellhole in a seemingly never-ending war, of which The Deepcore Foundation is heavily involved with at this point; selling to the highest bidder and working both sides. As a result of this, most countries such as America, Russia, and the like have been reduced to a shell of their former selves, with large war-torn wastelands found scattered throughout. A magically-fitted military group known as FENRIR, led by Captain Azura Lola Jr, has worked to protect the innocent from the worse effects of The Withering, aiding those located in the destroyed countries.

Economics & Social Issues

Earth

The economy is in shambles throughout the entire world, a second great depression having hit everyone hard. The Withering and the resulting warfare and conflict that has begun after the fact has brought the world down to it's knees, with the global economy effectively collapsing in 2015.

Politics

Earth

The American, Mexican, Russian, Canadian, and Chinese governments have all fallen, being replaced by the Deepcore Foundation's control and forcing the creation of various independent city states throughout those countries. The Middle East has been combined into 'The Eastern Unity'; while Japan, both Koreas, and the newly independent Russian country of Khabarovsk Krai have formed an alliance called the 'Moscow-Tokyo Pact'. The United Kingdom has fallen apart, splitting into various other countries.

Magical

The Frost

The high amounts of magic that pollutes the air combined with the nuclear radiation from the nuclear bombings that occurred have mutated and altered the landscape in The Frost, and has given life to 'The Living Ice', living monstrosities of ice and snow that are found scattered throughout the world.

Earth

An event known as The Bloom occured in the year 1901, changing the entire world and slowly exposing the entire world to the realm of magic. The end result, with the entire world becoming filled with magic and it subsuquently being ravished and damaged, is known as The Withering; having occured in 2015.

Other

Dimensional tears and warps have been occurring more and more often over the past hundred years, with the cause of them being unknown; though some have speculated it to be related to The Bloom.
