Transportation In The Frozen Wasteland

To get around in the frozen wasteland, the survivors in various groups tend to rely on different means to get around. These means range from the old-fashioned to the more outlandish, but for some they are the best that people have. The methods can all be divided up into four categories:

Animal-Based

Horseback

The classic way of going around, Horses have managed to survive the frozen wasteland thanks to two strokes of luck that have occurred for the survivors. The first one being the development of Greenhouses of a significant size that can hold animals within them, and the second being a specific breed of horses. The horses are of Nordic and Icelandic descent, having been brought to America long before World War III and had been spread around across the continent. Although a large population of the horses have been wiped out in the years that followed after World War III, a significant amount remain for people to be able to use them.

Horse Carriage

Although the quality of the carriages may vary, some have managed to put together some carriages; either from scrap or built from the ground up, to be attached to horses for travel. Horse Carriages are commonly used to transport multiple people and materials across the frozen wasteland.

Living Ice Carriages

Although not a popular way to get around, there have been reports in the western part of America that those living in the Shadowlands have adopted using Living Ice to get around. Although it's dangerous as all can be, their method involves restraining them to a carriage, and holding a Flame Edenite in front of the creatures to have them move forward thanks to their attraction to whatever the closest source of heat is.

Sled-Based

Husky & German Shepard Sleighing

Another classic way of getting around, a handful of dog breeds have survived the frozen nuclear fallout that engulfs the world; usually those that are able to handle cold environments rather well. Of note are Husky and German Shepards, big dogs with plenty of fur on them to keep them warm. The dogs are attached to a sleigh handled by a musher, whom steers and orders the dogs in the direction they need to go.

Edenite-Based

Snow Gliders

Snow Glider are a popular means of transportation throughout the Frozen Wasteland. They involve a combination of large constructs of wood and steel that create land-ships, usually with a large sail in the middle of it and the undersides of it being massive snow-gliding skis. Using a Flame Edenite gem behind the sail and the natural chill around the area, the heat pushes against the sail. When combined with wind, Snow Gliders are able to get people across the frozen wasteland with near relative ease.

That Which Remains

Old Roads & Highways

There are several roads and highways that some have managed to adopt as trade and travel routes to get across the vast regions of snow. Of course, to this day, some roads are marked off with a warning about if they're dangerous to traverse or not, due to the conditions that people generally come across with them, as well as the vast amounts of Living Ice that can be found.

Motorized Sleds

Although they've become increasingly less common over the years, motorized sleds involve attaching an engine to a sled and a propeller to the back of it. Although they require a bit of learning to use them properly, some have accepted the usage of motorized sleds as a way to get around, taking good care of these things the best they can.

I love all the different ways that you can use to get around the Wasteland. I do not think I would try to use Living Ice, though. That sounds like a silly idea.
