End Of Berlin Military Conflict in OmniVerse | World Anvil

End Of Berlin

The End of Berlin (German: Ende von Berlin) was a significant event that fueled the flames of the Cold War, a large part of The Freezing Of The Planet, one of the things that made World War III inevitable. Occurring in 1961, it was a brief conflict between East and West Berlin that was started as a result of the United State's growing tensions over the past seven years.

The Conflict

Prelude

After the borders between the Eastern and Western part of Berlin were locked up; thanks to actions from the soviet government that restricted emigration and had the US bent over a barrel with the United Nation's control over East Berlin, hostilities between the US and Soviet Russia were high. It was around this time that the Deepcore Foundation had begun to seek an interest in the area, desiring to gain control of Berlin for their own purposes with influencing the war. As a result, the company began to establish shell companies on both sides of Berlin that would act as a guise for their operations. The operations included two different research labs on both sides of Berlin; a real-estate company and a military compound in the west, and a weapons manufacturing company on the east.   The plan was simple: The research lab on the east part of the wall would "accidentally" unleash a plague that would spread quickly throughout that part of Berlin, while the weapons manufacturing company would discreetly give the guns out to criminals. While things would spiral into chaos in East Berlin, the real-estate company would begin buying property out in West Berlin. When the madness reached an apex in East Berlin, the research lab in West Berlin would announce a 'miracle cure' but they would require the ownership of the eastern medical company and some surrounding territory; while the military compound would offer assistance to the heavily increased crime-rate. This would begin a domino effect that would give the Deepcore Foundation more and more control over Berlin until all of it was theirs. At least, that was the plan.   While the companies were established and a plague was unleashed, the Deepcore Foundation forgot to account for those attempting to escape from East Berlin to West Berlin. As a result, it didn't take long for the plague to be delivered to the West Berlin and quickly infect everyone there. To make matters worse, the criminals that Deepcore had been supplying with weapons were interested in illegal arms trafficking, which were also brought over to the East of Berlin. As tension and hostilities grew between both sides and their plans falling apart, the Deepcore Foundation attempted to calm things down with the unveiling of their miracle cure. However, as if fate itself was against Deepcore's wishes that day, the laboratory the cure was being developed in caught on fire, and along with killing most of the personnel, it also resulted in the destruction of the cure.

The Engagement

On December 4th, a firefight occurred between some soldiers on the west side of Berlin and a group of hooligans on the east side; which ended in three dead. There was quick and furious action from those on the Eastern side of Berlin, the Russian military being stationed and ready to strike as a result; with the American armies coming forth on the West side. While no one was sure on which side fired first, what is known is that afterward, both sides engaged in combat. Over the duration of the conflict, there would be more and more evacuations from both sides as more and more of Berlin was overwhelmed with plague, gunfire, bombings, and criminal uprisings.   By the end of the conflict, both sides had decided to concede after a majority of the population in Berlin had left, with anything of value having been destroyed or stolen in the conflict. Berlin was left, and it was abandoned by all those who came for it, including those within the Deepcore Foundation.

Outcome

The economy of the Soviet Union was greatly hit by the destruction of Berlin. With help from the Deepcore Foundation; who had managed to keep their involvement with the conflict a secret, they would eventually rebound; though not without warning the United States that there will be consequences for the destruction of Berlin. With the already fractured relationship between both superpowers of the world becoming even more damaged, the destruction of Berlin only cemented the fact that neither side will ever reconcile. And thus, when the Cuban Missile Crisis occured, there was no stopping the frozen apocalypse that would await everyone.

Aftermath

When AEROCELL Communications leaked the documents detailing, among other things, the Deepcore Foundation's interference with Berlin and the war caused, there were heavy sanctions put on the foundation by both the American and Soviet governments; which hindered most of Deepcore's activities at the time. As with many things at the time, it would eventually cease to matter as World War III came and went.

Awesome! There's a few errors here and there, but I still can easily visualize the conflict and how everything turned into a Charlie Foxtrot, which snowballs into a completely alternate history.

Thank you! I hopefully got the errors fixed up but, I'm glad you enjoy this! Yeah, this is one of the many things that has essentially screwed this version of Earth over. I hope to go over more of what all went wrong in this timeline soon!
