Chain Dogs

Chain dogs are a bred species of dog created by the Deepcore Foundation originally for the purpose of carrying cargo in winter areas. Since their creation in the 1940s, however, they have found more usage in various other industries, such as guard dogs; farm dogs; and the like. After The Withering, people have taken to using the dogs for many things other than what the Deepcore Foundation intended, including raising them as pets. The name comes from the first ten years of their existence, wherupon the Deepcore Foundation would outfit the dogs with heavy collars with massive, durable chains on them; a requirement due to the strength they exhibit when the dogs move around.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They share similar characteristics to the German Shepard in form, four legged with brownish-blackish fur. Unlike ordinary German Shepards, however, Chain Dogs are stronger and faster, their bones being more durable and their muscles having more force behind their movements. Their tail is also a lot longer and wags a lot harder than a regular dog's tail; which has resulted in reports of people getting bruised from the force of their tail hitting them.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Chain Dogs tend to devour lots of meat, preferring chicken; ham and pork. Due to it's domesticated nature, it is often required by it's owner to have it fed with plenty of meat from a bowl. Otherwise, the dog will attempt to hunt for the food itself, which has resulted in a few accidents with Chain Dog owners that included finding the dog mulling around in the trash or in one's fridge, devouring all the meat it can find.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Commonly, Chain Dogs are used for the purpose of sheparding; sleigh-dogging; hunting; rescue efforts; and mana-detecting, being trained at a young age by professionals within the Deepcore Foundation. In the event of the Chain Dog needing to be used in other areas, such as security, it can be trained by the required persons.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Commonly, you'll find Chain Dogs in areas where the Deepcore Foundation's influences have grown immeasurably. Unfortunately, these regions include the Americas, Russian and European continents, and Asia. There have been stories of these dogs showing up in regions outside of Deepcore's control, usually via illegal smuggling or vigilantie efforts that strike at the Deepcore Foundation.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Along with enhanced hearing, smell and sight-- The last of which is evident by the glow of their eyes at night, the Chain Dogs can sense Mana, becoming sensitive to it. This has proven useful for keeping people from entering areas that are overwhelmed with Mana, which has become necessary to do in the American Wasteland.
