Personal history

Condoriano is the eldest son of the Corsini family. The Corsinis mainly trade in blackwood. Over the past few years there has been a growing shortage of blackwood, resulting in financial difficulties for the family, forcing them to rely on their smaller sources of income, like grain and other foodstuffs. They also maintain a strong presence in the trade in ‘manual labour’. They have so far managed to hold on to their lands and titles, but the family is in dire straits. At the age of 10, Condoriano participated in a Vintian tradition where children race towards the magical floating statue in the harbour, the winner of the race receiving naval education in the Vintian Expeditionary Fleet, and allowing them to whisper a wish into the statue’s ear. Condoriano, even at the young age of 10, knew how the world worked, and wished to be powerful one day.   During his education, it quickly turned out Condoriano had little talent for physical work. His ability for leading people however, was unparalleled, leading to him being offered an officer position after graduation. These same talents for reading, leading and manipulating people also helped stifle the few voices that dared to (correctly) suggest that someone with so little talent for actual sailing, surely must have cheated to win the race.   While he was working at his education, Condoriano realized that, despite showing very little talent for the magical arts before, he now had certain powers that could only be explained by magic. Ever the opportunist, he decided not to tell anyone, and used these secret powers to help advance his career.   After a couple of productive years in the navy, word reached him of trouble in the family. While his career in the military had taken up most of his time, he had made sure to keep in touch with his family. He was, after all, still the rightful heir. He decided to head back home to sort things out.   Upon returning home, Condoriano was arrested. One of his family members was accused of attempting to murder the queen of Vintia, and as a result, much of his family was arrested. Condoriano himself managed to escape his imprisonment and joined up with a member of the Pax Venatores, eventually joining the organisation itself.   Upon joining the Pax Venatores, Condoriano did his best to stay away from an official leadership position. Ashamed of his fall, he did not want to draw unnecessary attention to himself. Besides, dangerous, physical work like this really isn’t his style. It’s only a temporary thing until he can redeem himself. At least, that’s what he’s been telling himself for the past three years.   Condoriano is better than everyone else, at least, he is convinced he is. Despite this, he has little trouble following orders, thanks to his conviction that chain of command and discipline are essential for any operation. Likely a result of his military education. He is vain. Even during long expeditions at sea, he always looked the part of a proper noble. This helped him project a certain air of authority, but also certainly kept him at a certain distance from the crew, who were mostly commoners. Nevertheless, his people skills kept him as popular as an officer could reasonably hope to be and kept mutiny away. He is very bitter about being betrayed by his family and intends to regain what is rightfully his. Despite losing once, and not having had much use for his talents lately, Condoriano is exceptionally skilled at the Grand Game.
