Roshen Byu’Felathon

High Priestess Roshen Byu’Felathon

High Priestess Roshen Byu-Felathon

roh-shen' byoo-fel'-ah-thon, , is a Davrin Elf and mage, born of then-Second House Byu-Fel in Sivaraus, which is now the First House. This is a change which occurred in her lifetime partly due to her efforts and making use of well-timed good fortune.

Roshen has kept her House name as part of her status (not all Priestesses do). The suffix -athon indicates a First Daughter who willingly passed House role to the next heir to accept a position among the Valsharess's elite. The title indicates her influence with her House remains strong even if she is no longer First Daughter intended to become Matron.

Roshen is a peer in age to Elder Rausery as well as Wilsira Tachnathon, and a supreme politician favoring a combined effort of generosity to her allies and a constant "scheduler" of distractions and entertainment. The stability of Sivaraus as a whole has benefited from the twin facts that, for the last four andf a half centuries, Roshen has been consistently appreciated in her position and Wilsira does not seek to take it.

Background

Roshen was born to a status-hungry and ambitious Matron of the Second House almost eight centuries before the present. Even being the First Daughter, it was clear in her early magical potential and her Mother's desires that she would be gifted to the Sanctuary to serve Braqth. The constant jostling with House Tachna reached a fever pitch when the Matron of the then-First House presented a young First Daughter to Court who did not seem in complete agreement with her own Matron.

"We shall take advantage of that, Roshen, for you and I are in complete agreement. Aren't we?"

"Yes, Mother."

In Roshen's time, the position of "High Priestess" had been claimed by younger Priestesses more frequently, ambitious candidates running a chaotic race involving the top ten Houses. Although many had cheered watching Roshen viciously and publicly take out the incumbent (and quite disliked) High Priestess before her in dramatic fashion, the assumption had been that she would only hold it a century or two like all the others.

Current

Ever aware how far she'd fall if she lost a challenge or her self-control, Roshen has spent centuries grooming younger Priestesses not to challenge her but to believe in how much more they benefited under her knowledgeable leadership. The greater the age gap has grown between her and the youngest acolytes, the more successful this tactic has been.

Roshen's goal to stay High Priestess have been further aided by having a perceived "common threat" in the slightly-younger Conceiver Wilsira, whose favored method of persuasion is blackmail and humiliation, providing a heavy contrast between the top two Priestesses of the Sanctuary. While Wilsira's own ambitions have changed and remolded the Priesthood concurrently with Roshen's direct and confident reign as High Priestess, the Daughters of the First and Second House have created a comfortable, constant sense of change which has more or less stayed the same.
