Juliran
Priestess Juliran
Priestess Juliran (deceased)
(joo'-lih-ran), , was a Davrin Elf born in Sivaraus. She is deceased when "No Demons But Us" begins.
Juliran was a Priestess of Braqth living in the Sanctuary and had given birth to a Sathoet Son, as required by all Daughter of the Spider Queen to come into their full power.
Background
Juliran began as one of many Granddaughters of House Lelinh, the high-ranking Third house. Her Mother was the Third Daughter of four. Often overlooked in a very busy plantation, she had patience, willingness, and a persusasive ability to learn the base efficiencies of what kept a large set of overlapping operations running. She was also discovered. fairly late, to be a mage with some healing and fertility talent, but her Matron saw to it she was given proper religious tutoring as well.
Because of her valuable utility to many Nobles, Juliran was almost two hundred before she was abruptly singled out among her sisters and cousins to serve the Sanctuary in a simlar role as she had at House Lelinh. Her mage-healing was a benefit which put her in the infirmary as an acoltye, where she first met Noko, a rare hands-on healer. He was a lovely bua with a feminine face, and he'd been kept in the Palace-Sanctuary complex for his entire life. Though he'd looked out windows and balconies on occasion, he had never set foot upon the streets. The two formed something of a companionship, though both knew it drew bad blood to flaunt it.
Over the next century, Juliran's reach slowly expanded to wrangle order in one of the most discordant locations in Sivaraus. Her relative calm and memory for the practical as much as the divine, even after the incense, the orgies, and the suffering birth of her Sathoet, earned her both admiration and enemies in the Sanctuary.
Before the Story
Every Priestess eventually has dealings with The Conceiver Wilsira, an unavoidable figure who decided the fate of many recruits, acolytes, and Priestesses. When Wilsira made the breakthrough needed to allow powerful Priestesses to bear a second son, even after their Sathoet left their wombs scarred and barren, more Priestesses than ever sought out the Conceiver to learn the cost.
By the time the first generation of Royal Consorts were born and the method proven, Juliran began petitioning Wilsira to have a son of her own. She had worked so long for her Mothers and sisters at her House, and for that length of time again in the Sanctuary; at four centuries old, she had little to show that was her own and no one else's. Juliran was put off many times, likely for this very attitude in placing her worth upon a sole, pure Davrin of her blood but, eventually, Wilsira would relent. When asked if Juliran had a preferred sire in mind, only one name came to her mind.
"The healer Noko," she said.
