Jael is the Fourth Daughter of House Aurenthin, the lowest ranking Noble House in the Great Cavern. She has eyes the color of bright copper and long hair she keeps in a proper plait per army regulations. As a Noble, she isn't required to live in the field or the barracks at all times, but she does so often enough to help watch the backs of those from her House who are.
Background
While young, Jael grew her white hair very long and tied it into a high, flowing tail as if daring someone to pull it. Often, someone would, and thus would start a scuffle often against someone bigger than her. The Matron's Fourth had always been very physical, a small scrapper of aggressive temper with a chip on her shoulder. Her lax self-discipline would be considered by other Nobles an indicator of low breeding, but rarely are Aurenthins invited to Court to better judge amid the light and opulence of the Palace.
Current
The "bottom rung" Houses, by necessity, breed and raise mobile members of the family. Even the barely-Noble-born frequently leave the grounds and cross borders to trade on the Fringe, the perimeter of the Great Cavern farthest from the Palace and Sanctuary. The Fringe is a poorly monitored slum with many boltholes and unmapped tunnels, and more than just Davrin are glimpsed skulking around.
On the more lawful side of the Aurenthin border, the Valsharess's Army makes their main camp. Here the swordsvrin live, practice, and perform regular duties guarding at Low Gate and along the Fringe. When needed, they may be summoned outside Sivaraus to protect their borders. Coming and going frequently, the Army litters the poor quality silt and soil with further refuse and broken equipment.
House Aurenthin is the buffer between the Fringe and the ever-ready military, and it was within this narrow stretch, between order and chaos, that Jael grew up with her Matron and many siblings. It's not uncommon for members of this House to join the army, so long having been at their back and offering a regular source of meals. It's equally common that a House member will eschew the drills in favor of the freeflow of the Fringe.
Jael reluctantly joined the army, but hates the drills and dreams of vanishing into the Fringe. After multiple instances of harassment by more than one Sathoet when she was alone, her Mother had insisted the army was the better option for her Fourth, with many siblings adding to the pressure. Matron Kennitha had reason for concern.
Over the centuries, many Nobles of House Aurenthin have gone missing for many reasons, but one pattern is most feared and consistent: Once the demonbloods of the Priesthood took notice of a cait in this House, the only option for her not to disappear into the Sanctuary was to gain the attention of the Sisterhood as well. Like the Aurenthin lands themselves, this is not an enviable place to be caught in the middle. Fortunately for Jael, she always jumps back up after being pushed down, and always makes a spectacle doing so.
