Animators are a most intriguing profession, one that beckons my curiosity. My journey to Asteri, upon their union with the Confederation, unveiled a spectacle that captivated my senses. It is clear to me why some harbor disdain for their craft; the reanimation of the deceased is far from a genteel pursuit. Yet, when one contemplates the essence of their work, it emerges as a noble service to the community, extending one's contributions beyond the mortal coil. I perceive no inherent malevolence in this practice, though I am acutely aware that the parochial minds in these parts would scarcely entertain such an idea.
Work & Responsibilities
Reanimating the ones that left us is not merely a task, but a sacred duty. We honor their service in life by ensuring they continue to aid their kin in death, preserving the cycle of duty and devotion that binds our community. We serve the Lady by guiding their souls to the afterlife and allow them to aid us, even after their soul has passed the veil.
Social Impact
There is no soul, and no intelligence left in the reanimated individual, only allowing them to complete simple and monotonous tasks. They are used in many places in and around the city, most often in agriculture, mining, manufacturing, and sanitation. They also tend to do many simple maintenance tasks, from road work to gardening. This gives many Asterians a lot more free time, as most mundane tasks are taken care of around the clock. A rich culture of crafts, arts and education has developed within the city over the last centuries, and has given Asteri its unique and vibrant cultural heritage. While many outsiders look with destain at this practice, for Asterians it's a way to honor their dead. They do not put much value on the physical aspects of life, but focus on the spirituality. To them, the body is nothing more than a vessel for the soul. Once the soul has moved on, the body doesn't carry much value anymore. Giving the body a new purpose is a way to allow the deceased to continue contributing to society, even when they have moved on to the afterlife.

Super-intriguing! I'm left wondering how folks feel if they see the face of someone they loved out doing menial labor. Do they have trouble disconnecting and remembering that moving body isn't their loved one?
I imagine this would probably freak out outsiders, but it's been part of Asterian culture for hundreds of years. To them, the physical remains don't hold much value, because there is no soul left in it. Everything that made that person into the person you loved, is gone and has moved on. So yes it might be a bit weird to see their faces again, but in this specific culture it's not that much of a deal.
