Clan Erebas
While Kar Dulehun certainly has its fair share of riches, it would not prosper as much as it does if not for Clan Erebas. The clan has been exceptionally good at retaining a good relationship with surface dwellers. They recrited House Seelon in order to take back the city from Illithid centuries ago, and the friendship has continued since.
Structure
The matriarch of the clan, Thrungar Erebas, has the full support of the rest for all matters dealing with outsiders. When she eventually passes, the noble family within the clan will elect a new ruler to take on the mantle.
The noble family is expected to look out for the rest when it comes to how the city is run, making sure they are treated fairly, etc. In return, the members of the clan honour the nobles and respect their position. An attack on any of the Erebas nobles is an attack on everyone within the clan.
For everyone else in the clan, they are given a profession when they become adults and are expected to focus on excelling in that craft, no matter what it is. It would be very strange for one to try to break out of this perceived natural order.
While almost all members of the clan are dwarves, not all of them are 7related to all of the rest. Some families have joined over the centuries, and some have left. And there are a couple of human families that are still considered part of the clan. These humans have lived such a long time in the darkness that they are completely blind. But their other senses have compensated enough that they are able to work and move about.
Public Agenda
Besides being the liaisons to the surface world and House Seelon in particulair, Erebas acts as the main clan in Kar Dulehun. They aren't the sole rulers, but Thrungar Erebas is the head of the council and has the deciding vote.
They let the other clans focus on what goes on below the city, the mining, and other undertakings. Any major dealings need to go bast Erebas anyway and thus they can stay in control. This is generally accepted as a good balance for the city.
History
Clan Erebas used to be the rulers of the Mines of Erebak (named for an old version of the clan's name) before it was taken over by Illithid. They dwindled in power after that, but managed to strike a deal with House Seelon which helped galvanize more clans to take back the mines. The location was renamed to Kar Dulehun after that.
