Henry Coffey Character in The Works of Johannes T. Evans | World Anvil

Henry Coffey

Born Hereward la Cofrer in 1259, August 1st.   His father, despite his name, was an Englishman, but his mother was French.   Henry came from a noble magical family, and was pledged to marry a woman from a similar family, Hawise Ashdown. Very much disinclined to be married to any woman, he spent much of his youth travelling regularly between Cymru-Loegr, Alba, and Cernw, although he very much disliked to travel. Hawise, by then a vampire, came upon him in 1293, and declared that their match was a well-appointed one, and that the least he could do is verbally refuse her rather than flee all over the nearby countries.   Verbally, Henry refused her, and, hoping that it would convince him to marry her, Hawise turned him to vampirism, drinking from him and then forcing some of her own blood onto his tongue. Henry still declined her advances.   Hawise was hanged as a witch in Stowmarket in 1649, and when she did not die of hanging, she was burnt at the stake. Henry attended the execution, and beneath the shade of a broad-rimmed hat to protect his face from the day's bright sunlight, he ensured he was close enough to the front of the crowd that she might see him as she burned.   Has done the old-fashioned trick of pretending to be his son’s son’s son’s son’s son, etc.   Charming, but easily distracted – very much likes fun, and needs to be entertained at any moment, is taken away very easily by trends and excitement, loves to use new gadgetry and games, and LOVES excitement. Big one for sports, spectacles, and technology.   Turned his secretary, Theophilus Essex, in 1769. They’ve been together since Essex joined his service in ’64.

Personality Characteristics

Likes & Dislikes

Henry is a natural extrovert, and is at his happiest when engaged in conversation.   Bubbly, charming, and naturally inquisitive, he is fascinated by other people and their workings, and engages very readily with everyone he meets. Naturally of bright spirits, people often find him very memorable - as much as they find his secretary forgettable, which is how the latter prefers it.    Henry has a variety of likes and interests, frequently cycling through new hobbies as they come to him, and has pursued a wide variety of interests, some artistic, some mechanical, some outdoorsy, and so on.    Henry dislikes very little, and would admit to disliking even less, but insects make him uncomfortable, and he has a professed dislike of cicadas.
