Bartholomew Dufresne

Bartholomew "Tholo" Dufresne was an ornithologist and naturalist in the 18th century. He was well-known for his work in painting and creating plates of all manner of animals, but especially the birds of Britain and France.   He was a good friend of Theophilus Essex, and the two exchanged constant letters, meeting irregularly, for most of Tholo's adult life.

History

Ephraim was good friends with Dufresne's father, as the two of them were both doctors, and although Tholo himself didn't become a doctor, Ephraim always bought any books in which his plates appeared, and would frequently not only write letters to him praising his work, but place books to which Dufresne had contributed on prominent display in his office, where he would recommend them to patients.   Even in his office at the Caer Afon hospital in the 21st century, Ephraim has several of Tholo Dufresne's plates printed and framed on display, and remembers him very fondly.
