Struthio

Long-Legged Bird Folk

Spindly legs walk through a field, the tips of the grass barely reaching the knees. Thin legs keep one mostly dry as they reach into a pond to find their favorite fish. When startled, these gangly limbs become their greatest asset, helping them run quickly over miles, never stopping as the distance passes.   Struthio are some of the most varied of the Avians but are united by one common feature, their long, thin legs. With wings tucked close to their backs, the Struthio much prefer to run across distances instead of fly like their brethren. Their legs are made for the strain and the distance, aiding them in crossing great areas or reaching taller things, even with their slightly smaller wings.

Basic Information

Anatomy

All Avians share anatomical traits with Humans with some major differences. Avians have feathers and wings that allow them to fly as well as sharp beaks and talons that allow them to hunt or gather food.   Struthio vary slightly from other Avians as they have long spindly legs and much smaller wings that allow them to fly for very short distances. Their legs are meant for movement through water and for running long distances, often very quickly.   Common Colorations
Struthio vary widely in color, often having several shades and colors of feathers at once. Their size and colorations vary greatly as they often match those of long-legged birds in the world, including Cranes, Storks, Flamingos, and Ostriches.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Struthio tend to live in fairly large groups, often on the plains or near water. They prefer open spaces so they can stretch their legs, much like other Avians like stretching their wings. Their culture is heavily based on endurance as their wings allow them to fly little but their legs will carry them a great distance.   These people are often welcomed amongst other Avians even though they are not considered among the "fliers". They often have outgoing personalities that draw others to them, making them welcome amongst any of the other Avians and a great deal of other races.
