Anseri

Bird Folk of the Water

Villages on the edge of lakes and rivers echo with the chitters and chirps of the people that live here, diving, swimming, and learning, the water always at the center. While their wings are a prominent part of their people, the delicate feathers never stop them from diving for the best fish or finding the greatest treasure. These villagers worship the water like others of their race worship the sky, their feathers and feet built to make them perfect swimmers.   The Anseri are the most inclined of the Avians to swim and surround themselves with open sky and water. Their villages are often close to the water's edge, whether lake or river, so they can fulfill the need for freedom that all in their race have. While not as interested in the skies as the rest of their race, the Anseri still help with the mapmaking the Avians are known for by mapping depths and speeds of specific water sources.

Basic Information

Anatomy

All Avians share anatomical traits with Humans with some major differences. Avians have feathers and wings that allow them to fly as well as sharp beaks and talons that allow them to hunt or gather food.   The Anseri vary slightly from other Avians as they have webbed feet and waterproof feathers that allow them to dive and swim. Their beaks are less pointed, being more rounded in shape to help with digging.   Common Colorations
The Anseri vary widely in color, often having several shades and colors of feathers at once. Their colorations often match those of waterfowl in the world, including Mallards, Wood Ducks, Swans, Geese, and other birds that prefer the water.

Additional Information

Social Structure

The Anseri are one of the few Avians that choose a life on the ground, meaning their culture is less focused on the open sky and flying, and is centered around swimming, diving, and open water. Their villages often consist of small wooden huts close to the water and near the shade of trees as possible.   While the Anseri have nothing against other Avians, they are often seen as lesser or excluded from meetings and celebrations as they are seen as not utilizing their wings enough. Anseri can fly but often choose a lazy life in the water over one in the sky.
