Margay

Margay

Margay is a small, quiet village with fertile land where the River meets the sea in the Holoholona region. While the Majority of Margay's population is human, it is is home to several other sentient species and the villagers are slow to judge others.
Listen, there's the temple and there's the tavern. That's all any village needs really -random villager

Government in Margay

Margay is governed loosely by the villagers themselves and is part of a larger group of towns and villages, with Quokka being the seat of the region. Any of age persons, who have lived in the village for more than a year can be a part of the town meetings and help make decisions when the rare occasion arrives that decisions need to be made. The Jail remains mostly empty and is more of a place for villagers who have over indulged at the local tavern the night before than a place where any real criminals can be found. In theory, if there were to be a crime in Margay, the heads of each house hold would hold court to pass judgment on whomever was accused. There is no written record of court ever needing to be held. Margay adheres to the same laws that all villages and cities alike are expected to in Huggleland and on occasion those from higher up in the provincial government do pass through to keep an eye on things.

Margay Defenses

Margay has not needed any real defenses that anyone can remember. Nonetheless, they have a village watch that consist of 1 member of each household and any volunteers that may arise. The captain of the watch is Englebertha Girdz. She is the only female member of the watch and there are many local legends about her and how she became the captain. While the reality may not be known and may be much more dull than the rumors, Englebertha is a strong force to be reckoned with. She drags troublemakers and drunks out of her tavern with ease and anyone that dares to challenge her learns better quickly. The town sheriff, Gary, on the other hand is almost never seen handling business. Gary is usually sleeping, dozing, or resting his eyes either at his desk or even on one of the two jail beds Margay has. Gary will be the first to tell you he is only in it for the pay. Too bad it is a volunteer position.

Religion in Margay

Margay does not shut people out for their religion as long as the balance of the village remains in tact. That being said there is only one temple in Margay. That temple is dedicated to the Goddess Avandra. The temple consist of one large room with a the main entrance in the front and a hidden exit at the rear. The villagers use the temple as a place of worship, celebration, and most ceremonial needs. While Margay does not have need for charity, the Temple Attendant, Ilayda, is always willing to lend a helping hand to whomever needs it. Most villagers credit Avandra for all that is good in Margay.

The Economy

Many merchants and traders travel through Margay trading goods and coin along the way. Margay itself is known for delicious fish, bountiful produce and some of the lands tastiest apples from a vast orchard said to have been planted by Avandra herself. There are no famous artisans in Margay however, products produced in Margay are decent enough for the average citizen or fledgling adventurer.
