Rezenarza
Rezenarza has spent the last fifteen thousand years plotting revenge against the being who took his mantle and altered his course for eternity. Veer should do more about his interference, but guilt drives his choices where Rezenarza's concerned.
Our not-so-wondrous ex-Darkness is getting bolder, too. He should proceed with caution; if his machinations harm a being Veer cares for, no remorse will hold him back. And Rezi, without the backing of a mantle, won't defeat his rage.

Rezenarza and Veer
I'd start by saying once upon a time, but Rezenarza and Veer Tul's confrontation really took place. It's not a myth Veer's acolytes made up to explain his ascendancy to the Darkness mantle.
The religious have a nice tale about a collected Veer defeating an enraged Rezenarza for the mantle, but I gather from Katta and Qira that Talis, the Syimlin of Light, had someting to do with how everything turned out. Not a surprise, really; Talis is a known trickster, so tricking Rezenarza out of his mantle and handing it to Veer is much in his leaning.
However Rezenarza lost his mantle and his title to Veer, he has not forgotten, or forgiven, the affront. Tales told by ancient ghosts talk about how he now exists to thwart what Veer plans, but few can pinpoint an event that he affected. The only recent one I'm aware of is the forming of a giant lake in the Dark; Veer thought it a terrible idea, Rezenarza supported it because he's a nymph. It never materialized; I think the nymphs who attempted it disappeared. The Dark has its own mind about things, regardless what the entities it's named after believe.
Rezenarza and Veer are two different Darknesses.
Rezenarza is of the deepest shadows, the most hidden hollows, the darkest rages.
Veer is of the soft evening dwindling into night, the quiet interlude, the gentle grey that blunts the burst of Light.
Rezenarza's resentment isn't just over his defeat, but because the softer vision of Darkness claimed victory. I don't think he would have felt so insulted if Veer reflected his deeper, darker power, because he equates the deep and dark to strength. In that, he's like every other nymph I've known.
The ex-Darkness
We encountered Rezenarza's acolytes on an island in the Windtwists, and while we of the mini-Joyful defeated them, their presence was suspicious. At the time I didn't understand why they were there, other than to cause problems for Katta, Veer's avatar. But I now believe that encounter, somehow, gave him access to Vantra--which is what he wanted.
He speaks to her now, an agravating presence she wishes would go away. He cajoles her, tells her not to trust the company we keep. Why? His hatred of anyone associated with Veer?
He seems set on interfering with Laken's Redemption. Is he working with the Knights of the Finders? Is that why he tries to convince Vantra to return Laken to the Fields of the UnRedeemed and give up on her quest to reclaim his sundered essences?
If there is anyone Rezenarza hates more than Veer, it's Talis. Not only is Talis a brilliant Light against his Darkness, but he usurped Rezenarza's place as the most powerful syimlin other than the Sun (which ignores Death, but that's another topic for another time).
If the mini-Joyful are correct, then Talis interfered with Rezenarza and Veer's battle. He made certain Veer won by hiding him in a brilliant light Darkness could not penetrate. This may be why he's so insistent on prying Vantra away from Katta and Qira, their avatars.
I, myself, was drawn into his fanciful visions with Vantra--not by choice, mind. Something that outweighs his hatred of Veer and everyone connected to him drives him, which is alarming and annoying. He wants the mini-Joyful to do something, but his hints and insinuations are not what we need to understand the strangeness in Greenglimmer.
Will this something benefit us? I doubt it; look what happened in Snake's Den. He took the minds of those nomads who accepted his warped blessing and turned them against others. He tried to keep Vantra from stopping that slaughter. His people were there when the spiral collapse occurred, acting with unwholesome intent.
Katta and Qira are a bit too blasé about him for my liking. His is a destructive presence, and we need to deal with him sooner, or he will deal with us later.
