Codura

Capital of Caillah

This article is a stub. Please comment if you would like it to become a priority for expansion.
Codura is the capital city of Caillah on the continent of Caia. It is located on the northern coastline, and is one of the largest and oldest settlements in the country. The wide, sandy beaches nearby, called the Landings, are where the Caillish first stepped foot on what was then known as Vasethal, in 2394 EA.   The city started out as nothing more than a temporary camp, a base from which to launch explorations - and conquests - of the new land. With the discovery of rich iron deposits nearby, Codura grew into a mining and smithing town, vital for providing the ongoing war efforts with weapons and armour. It also remained a vital port, one of several along the coast that allowed the Caillish to bring in important supplies and extra men across the Erish Channel. It was used as the location to crown the first Caillish monarch, but did not become recognised as the capital city until 3387 EA, after the first capital, Dacren, was all-but-lost in the Great Fire.   Today, Codura is still a hub of industry and trade, but also one of religion, with more than fifty churches dedicated to the Faith. This includes The Pale Bones of Our Lady, the largest church in all of Caillah and the centre of the Caillish Orthodoxy.

Very cool! I sure would like to get to know more about the unique parts of the city, like what famous sights it has.

At the end of everything, hold onto anything.

Oh this sounds like an interesting city! very diverse. I do would like to know more. If there's 50 churches, how many taverns are there to accompany them? Where do they get their food from? farms outside the city? markets? tell me moooore.

Thank you! :D Probably at least twice as many taverns, for sure. XD Food would be a mixture of farms outside the city, fish from the ocean, and imports from the port. :D Will make a note for the full article.

Sounds like a cool place :) Before the fire, was there a rivalry between Codura and Dacren? :)

Probably a little bit of one. :D

I'd love to know more about the city - with fifty churches, I get a feeling that there are a lot of neighborhoods within the city, each with their own character, associated to each of the congregations. Very cool!

Definitely. I picture it as a relatively vibrant place, despite the conservatism of the religion in general.

I want to know why specifically the church to the Pale Bones of Our Lady is the largest, and why they're so drawn to her.

The Faith has a single deity, the Mother, and that's who Our Lady is referring to. It's like the St Paul's Cathedral of churches.

I love the history you've worked into the second paragraph. Maybe it's just that I've been getting hyped for Civilization VII and its focus on "history is built in layers," but that paragraph makes Codura feel very real and lived-in to me.

Thank you! <3 I find that hard to keep in mind sometimes, so I'm definitely going to remember that quote.

I'd be interested in seeing how Codura handles the challenges of pollution from the ironworks.

Yes. :) They definitely have to keep this in mind.
