Sensory Bars are establishments that promise escapes for those who need them. These locations use rentable Chem Sensor Array to simulate fantastic experiences.
These Bars often find success on downtrodden populaces, which make many see them as an addictive leech on hard-hit societys.
Let me ask you a question, when should it be acceptable for an entertainment venue to be as necessary as water and food? That's something that the bosses at sensory bars aim for. They want to be the only source of contentment in a troubled society.
Entertainment and public health arguments can go so far, but no one has a right to monopolize happiness.
Escape for Rent
Sensory Bars are a series of food and entertainment establishments that make use of rentable Chem Sensor Arrays to provide simulations of the users choice. Most of these establishments find their homes in the poorest locations, providing a means to "escape reality" for hours on end.
The quality of the entertainment varies depending on the income and wealth of a region. Many of these bars serve nothing better than gruel spruced up with hacked-together technology to look, taste, and smell like something far more appealing.[/pp
Besides serving food and drink, these bars will often establish daily 'themes.' Fellow Patrons, staff, and the environment are augmented to look the part. As soon as the chem sensor comes on, a run down warehouse with seedy patrons becomes a tropical paradise on a far-away planet.
We provide a means for people to escape their lives. Without us, you'd have depression and anxiety rampant amidst the struggling masses. No one needs to remind anyone what damage rampant mental disorders can cause in cities.
Controversies
A Sensory Bar thrives on desperate masses, with a populace so desperate to escape their lives, it is not uncommon for people to get completely addicted to these bars for their only source of entertainment.
Many Sensory Bars form planetary chains, that mimic entertainment monopoloies. These chains often are owned by one or two individuals, who have been known to muscle out any competition before raising prices on thier consumers.
Many Bars have been accused of lobbying against aid missions to impoverished areas, in order to make a better bottom line.
A Necessity
Sensory Bars provide a way for stress relief and relaxation, both critical to avoiding dangerous Auric Echos build-up.
Many Sensory Bars use this as grounds to expand their business into new areas.
Hedon Hotspots
Sensory Bars brings with them a downtrodden people so desperate to find some peace that they can be easily swayed to new ideologies.
The Apple of Hedonism often operates Sensory Bars as Hotel Californias to convert an eager populace.
Nutrional Needs
It does not pay the Sensory Bar industry well to poison or otherwise harm its customers. The food and drink served in most cases in completely safe and palatable.
However it is not unheard of for bars to add some less than savory ingredients to their food in order to cut costs.
Sensory Lounges
While Sensory Bars have traditionally been for the poor and downtrodden, a group of Bars have opened that cater to the rich and famous.
Going by the name Sensory Lounges, these locations use the latest technology mixed with high-end luxuries to provide what some describe as a once in a life-time party experience.
Hmm... It seems like you're trying to market the owners of sensory bars as the bad guys, but, other than the rumors that they are "lobbying against aid missions to impoverished areas" but really they aren't doing anything wrong. It's really up to the folks who go there how long they stay, and if it's cheaper than other forms of entertainment, good on the owner for providing it! The exception, of course, would be purposely manipulating someone into doing more sensory bar stuff than is healthy; a very blurry line that would be easy to dance around. Personally, I'd like a Tavern-themed one for DnD sessions. How nutritious is this gruel they serve there? Is it a heart-attack waiting to happen or just a bunch of random vegetables thrown together in a blender with no rhyme or reason?
That is a fantastic bit of feedback and great questions. I did some small edits to hopefully 'demonize' them a bit better through the controversies. Especially in terms of monopolizing, which is the major threat they can cause. I also added a section called nutrition! Thank you again for the amazing feedback! It's appreciated!
