GravTrain Engineers
The GravTrain Engineer is a mostly defunct role that started on the planet of Jhoutai. GravTrain engineers served aboard the planet's Meissner Train lines. Those lines carried a majority of the goods and people between the different Pact cities. The role was eventually automated underneath the Pact's Foster.
Yeah we used to run our lines from one end of the world to the other. A beautiful thing, but you never know when you're gonna turn a corner and find the entire bridge knocked out from a Corallum Quake.
The Only Viable Option
Plagued with unstable land, harsh weather, and even more dangerous wildlife, Jhoutai has never allowed small scale transit over long distances. The large capacity of rail, and the ability to maintain a much smaller infrastructure grid made the train the obvious choice.
Because of the reliance on Trains, the job of an engineer was a well respected and noble role. Unions and Guilds rose to support the career and in some limited capacity, the role is still used to suppliment new planets and technology-limited colonies.
