Aure

Aure was the founder and first emperor of the Aurelian Empire, a ruler whose vision and iron will shaped the destiny of Leo. Born in 78 AC, he was an elf, a race known for its longevity, which allowed him to rule for nearly four centuries before his death at the hands of Lucian Mordrake in 476 AC. His reign was marked by expansion, order, and an unyielding belief in the superiority of elves and humans over other races.

Appearance

Aure was the epitome of elven nobility, standing tall with an imposing and statuesque figure. His silver-white hair, often tied back in elaborate braids, symbolized his wisdom and authority. His piercing golden eyes carried an air of unwavering determination, reflecting both his strategic mind and his unyielding vision for the empire. He wore regal, intricately crafted armor adorned with gold and deep blue, the colors of the Aurelian Empire, further reinforcing his image as the empire’s supreme ruler. Even in battle, he carried himself with a graceful yet commanding presence, embodying the power and legacy of his reign.

Rise to Power

Aure emerged as a leader during a time of fractured human and elven states, uniting them under a single banner through military conquests and political maneuvering. By 270 AC, he declared himself Emperor of Aural, founding what would become the Aurelian Empire. His rule established a new era of governance, emphasizing discipline, structure, and imperial dominance over the lands of Leo.

Rule and Policies

Aure’s reign was characterized by a blend of harsh rule and pragmatic justice. While he was respected and admired by elves and humans, whom he saw as the superior races, he was deeply resented by other species, whom he relegated to second-class status. Many non-human races were subjected to enslavement, forced labor, and restrictions on rights and mobility.

However, following the First Imperial Civil War (395 AC - 401 AC), rising unrest and rebellion among these populations forced Aure to concede certain freedoms. He implemented a system where slaves could earn their emancipation, either through service or proving their loyalty to the empire. While this was a significant shift in policy, it was not driven by moral reconsideration, but rather by necessity to stabilize the empire.

The Second Imperial Civil War and Fall

In 469 AC, Lucian Mordrake, a rising imperial commander, discovered an Eternal Shard and used its overwhelming power to challenge Aure’s rule. This led to the Second Imperial Civil War (469 AC - 476 AC), in which Mordrake’s forces steadily gained ground against the emperor’s armies.

Despite the tide turning against him, Aure refused to surrender, leading his forces personally in battle. He was a skilled warrior and tactician, but even his experience and strength could not match the immense, reality-warping power of the Eternal Shard. In 476 AC, during the final battle of the war, Mordrake confronted Aure directly and disintegrated him in front of his soldiers, solidifying his own rule over the empire.

Legacy

Aure’s reign left a deep and controversial mark on the history of Leo. To his supporters, he was the great unifier, the ruler who brought order and discipline to a chaotic world. To his detractors, he was a tyrant, a leader who upheld oppression and racial superiority to maintain his empire.

His death marked the end of an era, ushering in the rule of Lucian Mordrake and an empire forever changed by the power of the Eternal Shard. While his policies have long been debated, his impact remains undeniable, and his name is still spoken in both reverence and scorn throughout Leo.
